Shifter: Sequencing v2
I was pleased with the reaction to the first episode of my film regarding sequencing. This is, after all, how photography is done: shoot, edit, sequence, and deliver in whatever fashion you choose. However, these days, it is easy to get distracted by a myriad of things that keep us from following this most basic procedure. I wanted to expand on the idea of editorial policy and how it can impact things like editing and sequence. I no longer do assignments, so my edits and sequence are influenced only by me. Cutting a shoot from ten to five, to three, and to the single best image is something I've been doing since 1988. Several people have mentioned their struggles with this technique. All I can say is, doing so is critical to making the most of your work.

Rangefinder Routes: Zurich with Phil Penman
In this Leica Academy masterclass, Penman immerses himself in Zurich’s streets, documenting life with his Leica M11-P. His process begins the moment he arrives in a new city—capturing the first impressions before they fade. Early mornings are his favorite time to shoot, transitioning through different lighting conditions from the dark hour to the golden sunrise. Composition and storytelling play a key role in his work. He demonstrates techniques like isolating subjects, using silhouettes, and framing elements to create dynamic images. Variety is also crucial—he switches between multiple lenses (24mm, 35mm, and 75mm) to bring different perspectives to his shots.

New Canon Printers. You know me, if you aren’t printing, you aren’t trying. #print #photography
Shifter: On Paper
I hesitated releasing this "film" because it's a bit odd and thin, but the main takeaway is to print, which is something I can't stress enough. I would describe this as a spontaneous film - a blizzard of odd moments and events, followed by a few pages being glued into my notebook. Throw in the burro races, two new Canon printers, frustration at not being in the field enough, and you get this odd little monkey of a film. I keep thinking that simpler is better. Stills and copy are what I love the most. Add in a little motion to destroy any chance at harmony, and there you have it. I kept the best photographs for later. They are not showcased in this film. There is a chance I can use them elsewhere.
