Study Hall Reflections

Pre-Preamble I share some personal history at the start. Skip down to the Front End Study Hall if you’d prefer to skip intro. Preamble Every Job A long time ago my family was living in the Philippines. We didn’t have money. We had roommates. Other medical students like my Dad. One was Dave. Dave M....

Moo Cow Creamer

I do still use Tumblr. I see great stuff there sometimes. I rarely import things from there to here. But for this, I am making an exception. And for you nerds, remember that every public Tumblr blog has an RSS feed but also culture on Tumblr means usernames may change which means urls change. But...

The Castle (1997)

For the IndieWeb Movie Club I watched 1997’s The Castle IWC April 2025: hosted by Zachary Kai Usually I will read and research before seeing a film. I don’t mind spoilers. So a trailer and a wikipedia synopsis would be a first step. For this, I took it on faith that it’d be worthwhile. The...

I thought it was a “by the wind sailor” but it was a plastic bottle. It’s easy to fall to hopelessness when we are inundated by trash and badness. But when we discover trash we must remove it. So I did.

“I’m expressing with my full capabilities”

This post is part of the IndieWeb Carnival for March, 2024 hosted by Pablo. The theme? “self-expression.” Preamble: Mom My mother encouraged me to express myself all the time. I believe she did this because her own expression was mostly suppressed by her parents. Mostly her mother. But parents are a system and both are...

At WonderCon this weekend I inquired from a vendor about aVoltes V robot (a great deal at $1600. Not today), wearing my Voltes V t-shirt. Americans see my shirts (I think I have 6 different ones now) and think Voltron. But Pinoy men of the right age know who it is. The vendor inquired as to how I knew the bot. “I lived in Manila in 78/79.” He asked if I spoke Tagalog and I said “no” but mustered a “magandang gabi.” His partner gifted me with this “Ay Naku!” (My Goodness!) hanger to my badge. 40 years after living overseas I’m still learning how kind and wonderful Filipino culture and people are. Let’s Volt In.

Zero Injuries!

I hit the beach late. When I was walking into the water a stray surfboard was tumbling toward the shore. Sure enough, there was a surfer working his way in, chasing his stray board. I stopped it. That’s me, handing it off to the surfer. “I guess the session is over!” the young man quipped,...

Hey it’s me

I keep adding ride videos as I get them. None I’m really very pleased with but I can see progress occurring. Maybe more importantly, I can feel progress occurring. I am seeing INTO THE BARREL of waves periodically. Before they collapse and leave me in whitewater. And I know my limits. I was north of...

Turban shell progress

How it started, how it’s going. Constancy The other day I found a turban shell in the sand. I’ve found a few before. That day I set it to soak in a mild bleach solution. I check it periodically. At least daily. I have a sort of constancy about it. It’s not gardening. (as in...

Dear Diary, Okay?

It’s my birthday week. We had coffees and hung out in Bird Rock this morning. It was a lovely and also productive morning. We were at Starbucks and I got my regular coffee order, the Caffè Misto. And yes, I documented that as a new page using my new lightweight pages at /starbucks. And I...

Diary Today

Sunday. Day of rest, in theory. Started the day finishing up work on my new Mixtapes page. Here’s what that looks like right now. Mixtapes have been important for me for a long time. I intend to do more with it. I am thinking I’ll be adding mixtapes back as far as 1982 which I’ve...

Upgrades galore.

It’s upgrade and cleanup season. I moved the old noke dot us site into the archive. And I archived the Git repo. And added it to my prior projects. I created a new page to enumerate my robots: /robots. I made a new header. I also deprecated some domains I will not do anything with....
