Have you ever sweated through a Miami Vice-inspired pastel suit while flying in a bush plane through remote Canada? You have? Well then, welcome aboard. You and I are related. Turn in for stories like this, and much more, as I continue my daily YouTube experiment. Thank you to those folks who sent me questions. Much appreciated, and feel free to send even more. For those of you wondering what contest judges are looking for, well, there might be something here for you. I can only speak for myself, not for other judges, but I have judged my fair share of contests over the years, and I've learned a thing or two.

The name Lake Ontario is more than 400 years old and predates both the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the Canadian Confederation. The name comes from the Wendat (Huron) word Ontari'io. The word translates to "the lake is beautiful, the lake is big". So, don't worry about the name; it goes right back to Lake Ontario, right after the moron goes away. Same for the Gulf of Mexico.

Once again, my heart goes out to the people of Nepal, Tibet, and China, and those visiting these places. This is a double whammy. Those visiting these parts tend to be adventurous types who are educated and involved, so especially painful to lose people like this. And the people of Nepal have been through SO much. As have the people of Tibet and China. Let's keep our lives in perspective.

Why am I making these films? No master plan, sorry. Just what I decided to do at the moment. They take less than one hour. From pressing that button via the app to writing this caption. A lunch break, if you will.

Some of this information might be useful. And the topics will continue to range across the board. Sure, parts will be photo-heavy, but that's not enough for me. I've got plans and ideas for 2027. Things are beginning to percolate.

I'm about to head to a photographer gathering. Wish me luck.

First off, my heart goes out to Nepal in the wake of the massive flooding. That had to be some of the most terrifying footage I've ever seen. The power and scale were beyond comprehension. Thousands will be displaced, and it will take time to recover. It's not often I see a ...

Shifter: Reader Q&A

I'm just full of good advice, and about so many things. Movies, career, how to open a package. How can you survive without my hot tips? First off, thank you to Alex for sending these questions. Not only are these solid questions about project photography, but they are also questions I receive regularly. So, thank you! Remember, I am one guy with one opinion. I'm always right, so that might be something to consider, but still, just one hombre.

If you are a random image kind of photographer, I highly recommend you attempt a project, preferably one centered around human beings. Forget about making great images; just go and learn how to navigate.

Shifter: The Ann & Dan Show: Episode One

"I'm glad you are starting the recording now because we always say cool shit and then ask, ' Why didn't we record this?"

What follows is a simple conversation between two creatives. For those of you who follow Blurb live events, you will recognize Ann Orman, a New Zealand-based commercial and travel photographer. She and I have done several live events, and during the planning, we had several conversations. These conversations led us to create the film you see here. Two creatives talking. That's it. That's all. Enjoy.
