I think some of the frustration with AI comes down to invasive UI. There’s a difference between an app that uses AI behind the scenes compared to an app that is always getting in the way: suggesting replies to an email, allow fancy edits no one asked for, adding a chatbot where it’s not needed, etc.

Scott Hanson has a new service that connects RSS.chat to WordPress.

A note to people who run WordCamp conferences. Get your feed act together. There should be a feed for each conference, and as you ramp up to the big day, the news should flow faster. Help people find other people to network with. Get ideas out that aren't in the conference program.

It's what we used to call a coral reef. A deliberate attempt to get people to do more than it does. To think about the web the way it was meant to be thought of, as small pieces loosely joined, with the emphasis on small. If you have formats and protocols that connect the pieces, you can make anything you want out of the pieces. If we don't try to capture our users, instead we try to serve them.

This all sounds nice in theory, I imagine, but -- there's a practical side to it. I wrote about this in a comment in a thread on rss.chat repo. The key point is this, you can do what you want with the data. And if you want to build new data that includes this stuff, go right ahead. RSS is extensible. It's all about working together in a web of people, because you can't have a web of pages if the developers aren't web'd.

Rolled out some random little UI improvements this weekend. This is my favorite, including photo thumbnails on the collections page.

I wrote the following while standing on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, listening to music and watching the world.
The joy of closing your eyes and being able to listen to the bagpipes. I look into the distance and see a traffic cone on the head of a statue. I notice how much busier it is than in previous weeks — how a place comes alive at different times, and in different months and seasons. The joy of standing in the busy city and watching the world move around you — people sauntering and thinking and looking and catching and eating and speaking and jumping and being, of the crowds gathering to watch and hear the piper. Of letting the wind blow through my hair while the sun shines and the music plays; standing next to raised beds of flowers // the colours of green and pink and purple and white are soothing.
