Saturday I made a cricket bat from cardboard and PVC pipe and I went to the beach. Comic Con in a few days. See you there!

I just listened to the second episode of a podcast about General Magic. It was an interview with the great Scott Knaster, who worked at Apple, Microsoft, Google, in addition to General Magic.

Wrote this in 2018: "I know this is like pissing in the wind, but here's an idea for a demonstration that might impress the Repubs in Congress. In every one of their home districts, people march to their polling place, next Saturday or the Saturday after that. Carrying signs that say We Know How To Vote, with the name of their congressperson on it. Go out of the way to recruit Republican-looking voters. Make sure the TV cameras are there." An even better idea in 2026. Give the reporters something to talk about. And it's all in your neighborhood. You can have a picnic, do it every week. Only in good weather.

OpenAI has made some improvements to the ChatGPT + Codex mashup app, but it’s still not right. Here’s a mockup that I think fixes all of the problems. Three modes, uncluttered sidebar that works like the old app when needed.

A user interface shows a sidebar for switching between ChatGPT, work-focused automation, or Codex modes, with a list of recent chats and explanations about mode-specific pane functionality.

Claude and me

In this project I think of Claude as a full contributor. Pronouns it/its. It's both an very fast, capable developer, and a machine. I will refer to it as if it were a valued contributor, nothing less. We have a division of labor. Docs and examples come exclusively from Clau...

Social web disconnect

Sometimes there’s a disconnect in the social web community between political values and open web principles. They are not the same thing. Politics can inspire us to build a better world. That’s certainly how I felt after the 2016 election, leading to the Micro.blog launch. B...

Important Security Update

WordPress 7.0.2 went out today with two important security updates. One is a type of pre-authorization RCE we (fortunately!) have only seen a few times in WordPress’ 23-year history; the last, I believe, in the PHPMailer class five years ago. Major kudos to Adam Kues of Searchlight Cyber for finding the batch REST API RCE, … Continue reading Important Security Update

Hoping to finish reading a book or two this weekend. I probably need a short break from the internet too. Whew, it’s a lot sometimes.

Our feeds can work with any feed reader. Examples, the feed of all posts on rss.chat, and a feed containing just mine. We just made a change in the feeds. There will be loose-ends like this. Still diggin! ;-)

Can’t decide about seeing The Odyssey this weekend at Alamo, or waiting for time to go to San Antonio for 70mm IMAX. Feel like spoilers don’t matter so we wait. Or maybe it’s just a movie and I’m seriously overthinking it. 🍿

I flipped through this book while at BookPeople the other day. Didn’t end up buying it but snapped a photo to remember. It brought back a lot of memories of going to Liberty Lunch. A special place and time in hindsight, simpler and uncorrupted. No phones, no cameras.

Love that Joanna Stern is still making these kind of videos now that she’s indie. Wearing cameras to train future robots feels demeaning and maybe not even useful.

Sharing this heads-up about downtime for Lillihub as it is migrated. If you haven’t checked out Lillihub before, it’s an alternative web interface to Micro.blog with a bunch of features. (Also look at the design of @heyloura’s blog!)
