Codex and Sky polish

Federico Viticci blogs about the new Codex app from the perspective of his early preview of Sky last year: It also helps that computer use in Codex is exquisitely designed – not a surprise given OpenAI’s design team and the pedigree of the team behind this feature. The flow...

@NASA.gov has lots of short Artemis videos on their YouTube channel (@NASA@YouTube.com), however this 10h10m video of the Artemis II lunar flyby appears to be the closest to a continuous long-form recording of the live stream during that period.https://youtu.be/z-j1uxBmis0 Af...

John Gruber commenting on a blog post from Terry Godier:

Imagine being in a restaurant, and in the middle of your entree, the server comes to your table and hands you an iPad and asks you to rate the joint on Yelp. That’s what using most apps is like.

We are pretty close to that restaurant reality already! Rating prompts are out of control.

I write.

I moved another page which I’d brought into WordPress out of WordPress. And so, the new Writing page, which will continue to be a sort of work in progress. I really want to provide a bit more context, add more dates, and some nice summaries. Maybe even word counts? New job is going well. I...

Scripting News Valid

Scott Hanson who works with me on all my projects is doing his WordPress development using Codex. Here's a plug-in they wrote. Loving this. So we're all turning this corner. There are so many things I want to do, but I keep hitting bumps. I recover and come back again, so far. And I go slowly. The bot wants to run at a breakneck pace, which I know from tons of experience gets you a worthless result. One of the byproducts of my current project is a /opml skill that reads and writes .opml files in a way that's compatible with all the apps that use OPML. Pretty sure of that since I published the first OPML file in 2000 or so. Not sure how I'm going to release the skill, but I want everyone to have it.

The new Codex for Mac update is really good. There are a bunch of new features, but computer use is particularly well done. Some great Mac-specific touches. Ari Weinstein worked on it — from the original Workflow team, and Shortcuts at Apple.

An Odell No. 4 index typewriter sitting on an oak library card catalog next to it's wooden box.
I’ve slowed way down on acquisitions in my typewriter collection, but when I saw this magnificent exemplar with Art Nouveau decoration pop up at thrift, I could not resist. For a near complete exemplar, it seemed to be better priced than most of the market that I looked at before purchasing. I suppose that perhaps … Continue reading

Jeffrey Zeldman blogs about taking time to edit now that text is free and abundant:

Brevity was always a discipline. Now it’s a statement. When everything around you is excessive by default, choosing fewer words takes courage. It says: I thought about this.

Threat models

People talk about the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of large language models as though all tasks are comparable. But it strikes me that there are three broad categories of work that large language models are applied to: Compression. Transformation. Expansion. Compressi...

Inkwell beta for Android is now in review over at Google. Feeling good about 1.0 on both mobile platforms, will ship fairly soon. All the client apps are open source too — web, mobile, Mac.
