A bright room with a green steel table on top of which sits a 1950 gray Royal KMG typewriter, a two drawer Shaw-Walker oak card index and some papers and mathematics textbooks. Behind the table is a barrister's bookcase full of books, and two card index filing cabinets.
Today’s reading and writing space.

ChatGPT Pulse

I temporarily upgraded to ChatGPT Pro so I could try out Pulse. I know, Pro is expensive. While it’s a “business expense”, I don’t plan to keep the subscription. I’m trying to cut expenses and raise revenue, not the opposite! ChatGPT Pulse takes your AI chat history, optiona...

Smart Fellas Writing About Comics Stuff

Tim Synder on Superman: The virtues of Superman: A medieval movie review (2025) Superman, in the film, is an innocent superhero. This character type goes back to Siegfried in the Nibelungslied. The medieval Germanic hero is as strong as twelve men, he can become invisible, and is invulnerable except for a single spot between the...

I'm writing reports about problems with WordLand using WordLand and I'm liking it. That's a good sign btw. And also I think it looks pretty great viewed in WordPress and in Mastodon.

I’m rather happy with the IndieWeb wiki: it’s at indieweb.org. It’s a great resource and has had great additions and documentation added to it over the years. Folks like gRegor and James and Tantek and many, many, many, others have made and improved terrific living history of independent websites. The topic is so large it...

Scripting News Valid

Automattic shipped a new product called Telex that's a ChatGPT for designing blocks in WordPress designs. Blocks are a simple result of design and programming. Having seen a demo, it looks really useful and is a nice small programming space, where a lot of users could actually control the process, and get something useful quickly. I've gotten pretty adept at teasing images out of ChatGPT, and at some point I'm probably going to need a commerce site, to allocate subdomains for people's feeds in WordLand. Still have to figure out how that works.

Scoring books

Over the past couple of years, I've used Literal to keep track of the books I've read and that I’m reading. When you mark a book as completed, Literal, like probably every other site and app of this type, asks for a review, which includes a 1-to-5 star rating. I suck at this...

Scripting News Valid

I put out a request for WordPress-related blogs on Masto, Bluesky and Twitter this morning. Got enough feeds to start wordpress.feedland.org. If you have a site that should be included, please post the URL in one of those places and I'll add it to the subscription list for the site.

Asked Codex for a simple fix to something, and it went way off in the weeds and wrote its own Ruby and Python shell scripts to test its theory about the bug. Too thorough! Sometimes I really do just want the quick, possibly wrong answer that I can then tweak myself. 🤪

Saying thanks on the web

One of the things I love most about blogging is that you can write about an explore an idea as it forms, without necessarily having a specific resolution or end state in mind. With that in mind, I wanted to document a line of thinking that has been on my mind for the last wee...

Harry Mack

I love the culture of freestyle rap, it’s so inspiring to see how people can create such rich poetry riddled with allusions and puns on command. Last week I got to meet Harry Mack and see him improvise live and it totally makes sense that he has a jazz drums background. If you’re not familiar … Continue reading Harry Mack
