Distracted myself today by fixing bugs and working on the Mac version of Strata. We’re going to slowly move more of the notes, bookmarks, and highlights functionality into Strata, to help keep Micro.blog streamlined.

I Voted!
It was a huge pain in the butt, because my mail-in ballot didn’t register properly, but I found a last-minute flight to Houston and this morning walked over to Congregation Emanu El and voted. It is our most sacred duty as a citizen. I encourage every American to vote.
There’s a nice new Micro.blog theme “mnml” by Jim Mitchell, available in the plug-in directory. Clean, minimal design.

Reflecting today
Today I’ve been thinking a lot about my relatives who actively fought against nationalism as part of the resistance. What they and their colleagues did in the name of inclusion and opportunity.
That's the name of the game: a world where everyone has the same opportunity to live a good life, regardless of their race, religion, or background, with an equal, democratic say in how their country is run, and the freedom to live their life without threats of violence. If we’re not striving for that, what's the point of anything?
Thank you for shining in a world that sometimes appears dark. It may seem such a small ember, but it glows like a lighthouse in the world, reminding us that we are so very far from being alone.
Speaking of voting and podcasts, I love that Lex Friedman does a daily short podcast. Here’s today’s episode. This is exactly what we had in mind when we first added podcast hosting to Micro.blog.
🎶
Freedom, freedom, I can’t move
Freedom, cut me loose
Freedom, freedom, where are you?
‘Cause I need freedom, too
I break chains all by myself
Won’t let my freedom rot in hell
Hey, I’ma keep running
‘Cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.

10 distractions, in case you need them for some reason
Thanks everyone who has supported Micro.blog, whether you tried it only briefly, or stuck with it for years, or came back again later to rediscover it. As the United States votes today, still no politics in Discover this week, except this one thing: go vote! 🇺🇸
Feeling a bit reflective on this election day morning. 8 years ago, I had already been working on Micro.blog, but the presidential election results pushed me to get my act together so I could hit the ground running at the beginning of the new year. January 2nd, launched the Kickstarter.
Prompted by their latest greenwashing campaign, only now twigged that Esso is the phonetic pronunciation of S.O. for Standard Oil. I prefer Jayesso, Just Stop Oil.
Happy Election Day, America! Went for a short walk to pick up a coffee. Beautiful cool fall day in Austin.

I was notified of a comment on Reddit that was intended as a warning but is in fact a huge compliment: > Gotta be careful about thesession.org. It has the same problem as Wikipedia: anyone can contribute and edit

Sen. Ron Wyden: Women's phones have become a tool for abortion surveillance
Tomorrow if you are an American, and haven't voted yet and are thinking of sitting it out -- get off your butt and get out there and do your civic duty. We need great turnout this year, record-setting turnout, as a show of love for our country and our Constitution. Vote now, because later you might not have any power to change direction. Tomorrow, you do have power. And remember that voting is not you expressing yourself, it's not free speech, it's you and I governing. This is our moment of greatest power. Use it or lose it.
