Sparrow Wallet Lawsuit

Joe Rossignol (PDF): The complaint alleges that Apple violated California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and other laws by failing to adequately review and monitor apps distributed through the App Store, despite marketing it as “a safe and trusted place to discover and download apps.” Due to these assurances in Apple’s marketing, the complaint said the […]

enjoying imagining the discussion among editors in which they determined if this ought to be pluralized as Spider-Mans, Spider-Men, or Spiders-Man

The former World Liberty adviser said the scenario reminded him of the meme in which two Spider-Mans point at each other.

Typewriter interview with James Kochalka

My latest typewriter interview is with cartoonist James Kochalka. It’s fun and light and exactly like his comics. James has long been an inspiration to me — in the P.S. I mention that James’ sketchbook comic American Elf was on my list of 7 books that helped me learn from my kids. I learned from […]

Links to Claude Chats Were Indexed by Google and ‘Bing’, Whatever That Is

Maddy Varner, Wired: Over the weekend, people were surprised to discover that some Anthropic Claude chats could be easily found via web search. The issue, which appears to have been first flagged by a redditor, exposed chats that included people asking for advice about what political party they should join, whether attorneys in Kansas are […]⌥ Permalink

That which wants to be photographed

I recently found this quote by Anni Albers:

Being creative is not so much the desire to do something as the listening to that which wants to be done: the dictation of the materials

This speaks to my heart because it’s the way I see photography, so I couldn’t resist adapting it to our art:

Photography is not so much the desire to photograph something as the listening to that which wants to be photographed: the dictation of the light and the scene

This article is a great deep dive into some of the shady characters behind World Liberty Financial — Justin Sun among them, despite his recent efforts to distance himself from the project. (He likely hoped this interview would help, and it is a little friendly, but rightly points out his shadiness.)

Jen Wieczner in Intelligencer.
World Liberty Financial has put $800 million in the president's pocket. Justin Sun made a huge investment — and was shocked by what he saw, reports Jen Wieczner.

The latest Ghost in the Shell anime adaptation is just what I needed: goofy, old-school storytelling and animation. Gorgeous! 😍

Kusanagi, Batou, and Ishikawa relax with the red spider-like Tachikoma beneath blooming cherry blossoms, overlooking a lake with the city in the distance while pink petals drift through the air.

My old internet friend Erin Kissane and I probably have some significant disagreements about electoral politics, but there’s a deeper politics of how human beings communicate with one another about which we are in real agreement. I love the work on our common life she’s been doing ever since the Covid Tracking Project — a great example, by the way, of how anarchic practices can achieve things impossible for our formal political order. Nowadays she’s thinking about clouds and atmospheres‚ literally and metaphorically, and I am tracking carefully.

Steve Jobs in 2011: ‘We Build Products That We Want for Ourselves, Too, and We Just Don’t Want Ads’

businessinsider.com/apple-snubs-the-iad-2011-6

Dan Frommer, writing for Business Insider in 2011 about that year’s WWDC (Jobs’s last): While discussing Apple’s free, new iCloud email service, he took an apparent jab at Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and the others, which stuff ads in their free email services. “No ads,” he boas...

Yesterday's Scripting News was one of the most news-full days in a long time, maybe going back to the rollout of RSS 2.0 in Sept 2002. If you look at what's there, a post about re-opening the Frontier object database format would be considered the top item on any other day, ...

[Sponsor] Introducing Agent Fone

fail.xyz/phone/

Every phone now ships with an assistant. You ask, it answers. Lame. We built a phone that writes software instead. The app idea you’ve had in your notes for years. The side hustle you will never get around to building. The weird thing only you would want. Describe it, answer a few questions, and it’s on your home screen — yours, working, sendable to a friend. No app store between you and your ideas. The first fifty units go to teams who’ll push on it and tell us what breaks.

Young Adults and A.I. Use

Natalie Kaufman, in a Wall Street Journal article headlined “Young Adults Are Letting AI Do Their Talking for Them — Even in Person”: [Niharika] Abbaraju, 20, is part of a growing cohort of young adults outsourcing deeply human tasks to AI. Many, struggling with social anxieties great or small, will seek assistance ahead of a […]⌥ Permalink
