Sometimes the simple things are the best. Tonight's dinner was gnocchi filled with spinach and mozzarella baked in a quick and dirty tomato sauce with basil and oregano, and some fat little chorizo sausages on the side. 😋

Getting ready to host the last talk of @inclusivedesign24 and the first talk feel like a very long time ago!

If anyone using iOS 2026 with VoiceOver has discovered how to use the call screening feature, I'd be glad of any tips.
I mean in terms of how to accept/refuse screened calls, not how to turn it on. Thanks 🙏
Huge thanks to @foo__ for helping me with a little CSS magic that means I can now indicate when posts on my blog have been updated 🥳
If anyone with knowledge of Sass has time, I could use some styling help with a minor change to my website that doesn't look quite right.
Change adds an "Edited" notation to posts that have been updated, but the text looks weird (or so I'm told).
Website uses Eleventy with Nunjucks templating, in case that's useful info.
Happy to pay for time.
Looking for RSS feed recommendations. Topics of interest include tech (generally), web, accessibility, web standards, AI, and food/cooking. Thanks 😊
The countdown to Inclusive Design 24 (#id24) on 25 September begins:
https://inclusivedesign24.org/2025/schedule/
@inclusivedesign24 is a free 24-hour online event for the global community. It celebrates inclusive design and shares knowledge and ideas from analogue to digital, from design to development, from planners to practitioners, and everything and everyone in between.

When the sound of thunder, and the rain on the roof above my head, means I can no longer hear my screen reader... BRB.
Earlier this year, someone bought me some gorgeous bath bombs from Lush, and having decided to by myself some more, I've discovered that in January they renamed three of their bath bombs to "Diversity", "Equity", and "Inclusion", in protest against Trump's Executive Order.

The UK will test its emergency alerts system at around 3PM on Sunday 7 September.
If you have a phone that you need to keep hidden to protect yourself, here's how to opt out of the emergency alerts:

Sounds like a challenge to me. Ready everyone?
Someone has just made my day by calling me "one of the accessibility OG" 😂
📢 there will be a test of the UK national emergency alert system at 3PM on Sunday 7 September. More here:

Is it me, or is DuckDuckGo increasingly returning nothing but YouTube/Tick Tocks in its search results these days?
With thanks to several people on Masto, my personal email (with custom domain), contacts, calendar, and file storage have all been moved from Google Workspace to Mailbox.org, and the monthly cost has consequently dropped by about 50% 🥳
Although I'd used computers before, including an Apple IIe and an Atari ST, it was the arrival of "Wintel" computers that changed everything for me, so this NYTimes piece on the downfall of Intel is both interesting and a little nostalgic:

Hello @mailbox_org, I'm unable to connect my Mailbox drive to Windows. I've tried everything on this help page, using a browser, Windows GUI and the command line.
https://kb.mailbox.org/en/private/drive-article/webdav-for-windows/
It authenticates OK, but then returns nothing. Browser message is "There's nothing here", Windows and CL variations on "cannot find location".
Unable to open support ticket, possibly because it's a trial account. Hope you can help? Thank you.
Can anyone recommend an accessible email provider in the EU, with custom domain capability, contacts, and document storage with file access via the OS? TIA
If the methodology is robust, then kudos to #Google for developing a way to calculate #AI energy and water consumption more comprehensively than has been typical so far:

The worst part about a visit to the Dentist for treatment is the amount of time afterwards where it isn't possible to drink tea.
Slow hand clap for #Linkedin who've locked me out of my account until I can prove who I am, except I can't because their third party face recog provider is unusable if you can't look directly at the camera - and all because I changed my password and disabled a bunch more of the personal data leaching settings I found when I went looking.
It's been a while since I wrote any purposeful code, so I'm feeling good about having written a private Alexa skill that opens the gate onto our drive automatically, so I don't have to send an SMS from my phone.

With agentic AI contributing to the AI hype-cycle, I've been giving it some thought from the point of view of a disabled person, and also as an accessibility specialist who's already witnessing the arrival of the agentic web first-hand:

Marking 80 years since the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, I remember visiting the Peace Museum in Hiroshima and hearing the voices of survivors and the families of those who did not.
I remember the mark burned into steps where someone was sitting when the bomb exploded, the items of clothing left behind, and the photos of such terrible destruction.
I will never forget the helpless rage I felt, caused by people two generations and a continent away from me.
