Happily tagging koalie@mastodon.social from my "tag, you're it" blog post 😊

Did you know that abortion is a crime in the UK? Now you do - and it's time that changed. Please lend your support by signing this petition:

@aardrian tagged me in his "tag, you're it" post in March, and it's taken me until now to get to it:

And with permission, I've tagged lolaodelola@mastodon.social to take up the baton 😊
In 1997, Mary Schmich published a guide to life in the Chicago Tribune. In 1999, Baz Lurhmann turned it into a chillout anthem called Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen).
It was, and remains, some of the best advice for life I've ever heard...

We've been turning out and I came across an old newspaper I own, dated 23 November 1963 - the day the UK headlines reported that JFK had been assassinated.
I came across it originally about 30 years ago underneath a pub carpet where it'd been used as underlay, presumably sometime in late 1963.
Also came across a leatherbound journal dated 1895, apparently written by one James Smith and dedicated to someone called Mabel.
It's full of quotes, poems, and excerpts from hymns including one by Charles Wesley.
I have no idea where it came from or who the owner might be. The handwriting is barely legible in places, though there is what I think is a piece of pink blotting paper still tucked in the back.
Just added the recipe for the sticky pork belly slices I made the other day to my website:

Making sticky pork belly slices; cooked in ginger ale, then clarted in a reduction made with maple syrup, lime juice, ketchup, ginger, chilli and garlic.

I finally got around to jotting down a few notes on using my Ray-Ban Meta Glasses:

PerlBod just hacked back the enormous Rosemary bush in our garden and I now have a huge bunch of it sitting on my desk and making my office smell fabulous!
The @inclusivedesign24 Call For Presenters (CFP) closes on 31 May, so don't hesitate, submit your talk now!

#id24 is on 25 September; 24 hours of #free talks about #accessibility #a11y #code #design #inclusion and more
Listening to Ben Loewenstein, Waymo's Head of UK and EU regulation and policy, talk about autonomous car accessibility for blind and low vision people.
Have to acknowledge that Waymo has clearly given it a lot of thought.
It seems that Windows 11 doesn't load the modifier key tables, so even though the shortcuts are exposed in the UI, they don't work. 😩
On the upside, a slightly quicker way to open a folder in Terminal is to type "wt" into the folder address bar, which is a bit less faffing about than going via the context menu at any rate.
If you're curious how AI is redefining #accessibility, why not come to AI and Accessibility Day hosted by We Are Developers on 5 June:

You can use code A11YDAY_Leonie
for 15% off too.
Dear Fediverse, does anyone know why keyboard shortcuts that use Alt as the modifier in the Windows 11 right click/context menu might not be working?
For example Alt t is supposed to open Terminal on the current folder, and Alt o is supposed to open More options on the context menu, but neither seems to work.
You might not know that migratory birds like Swifts and Starlings are in trouble in the UK because modern houses have nowhere for them to nest.
The solution is to include a single £35 "swift brick" in every new build (a hollow brick that creates a nesting spot).
The Labour Gov is blocking the proposal to mandate this, and I've just signed this petition to encourage them not to:
https://act.38degrees.org.uk/act/swifts-petition
Note: the donation at the end is optional.
Good grief. made a pot of tea that's sticking to even my ribs (and my ribs are quite accustomed to tea you could stand a spoon up in).
I joined host Peter White on BBC Radio 4's In Touch programme ast night, to chat about the forthcoming European Accessibility Act (EAA) and what impact it might have on blind and low vision people in the UK (if any):

#Eurovision could be within reach for #UK #Iceland #Netherlands or #Denmark, or #Austria could come out of leftfield, but #Sweden will probably take it.
#SanMarino owning the spirit of #Eurovision
#Eurovision 36 thousand people belting out Waterloo!
#Sweden has the beat, the catchy bit in the middle, and the requisite key change, but I'm just not convinced it'll win #Eurovision
OK #Denmark going for the drop at #Eurovision 🙌
I think #Finland has got the bloke doing the #BBC #Eurovision #AD all a bit flustered.
Well done #Netherlands - can't go wrong at #Eurovision with an "ooh la la" chorus.
