A couple of impressions from the first day of WordCamp Europe 2025 in Basel. As always, the greatest part of the event is catching up with people, some of whom I have now known for twelve years, since the first WCEU in Leiden back in 2013. Looking forward to tomorrow!

Made it to Basel. My train was only 10 minutes late. (๐คซ Don't jinx it for the way back.) Got very lucky with the view from the hotel room. Went to the venue to get my badge, took a look into the main auditorium, where the contributor day was taking place. Went to the social event with Claudio, which took place in Basel's football stadium. Looking forwad to seeing everyone tomorrow!

What a day. ๐ต Our bike had a flat tire right when starting our morning commute. Fortunately we made it back and got the car in time so nobody was late. Immediately went home and fixed the tire โ only to have it go flat again when I was on my way to fetch the kids. Ugh! I thought I did a pretty thorough inspection earlier, but something is definitely amiss. Now I need to order a new tire casing (it's pretty worn out anyway) and then double check everything again.
I hate using the car btw because it is so sloooow. ๐ฉ And don't get me started about parking! I can't for the life of me understand why people do this to themselves every day. At least here in the city the bike is so much more convenient โ and faster!
Also, it seems like these bike troubles are always cropping up, right before I go on a trip. What's up with that?!

Fully wrapped now.

Empty office on a Sunday.

We were out picking strawberries today. Loved the texture of the barley fields on the next plot.

iPhone decoration.

Went to the indoor swimming pool again. I have a lot of time to take mirror "selfies", while waiting for the rest of the family.
Looking forward to heading to Basel next week for WCEU. I think I want to take some more photographs this year and maybe make a zine from the images. Just as an exercise to test a new format โ probably A5. And now that I made this public statement about it, the likelihood of it actually happening is greater than zero. ๐ I'll have a five hour train ride to come up with a concept and design โ and another train ride back home, where I can do the editing and sequencing.

Got caught by the rain on our way home today.

Slushy.

Oh hello there, A41. This time with a bit of vegetation in the foreground.

Found a break in the rain and went outside.
And I made a Kirby plugin from my WebSub implementation.

Balcony Rosemary still life. Can you tell I didn't get outside much to take photographs? Anyway, pretty happy we finally got some rain today.
This blog now supports WebSub. After talking about it a couple of days ago at the Homebrew Website Club, Daniel today published a post about how he implemented WebSub (thanks!), so I did the same!

Observing shadows on the playground. Photos from a couple of days ago, since I didn't take any interesting ones today.

View from the Zentralbibliothek Dรผsseldorf (public library) where I attended Homebrew Website Club earlier today.

Observing color.

Watching graffiti practice for a bit after school.

I took exactly three images today. The one above, while waiting for a traffic light to turn green. I've taken this route during my (our) commute so many times, and some of the lights are incredibly anti-cyclist/-pedestrian because they take forever to turn, even with no cars around. This particular one is one of the worst, especially because you can clearly see very far ahead. I can't wait to teach them when it is ok to cross a red light. (In a couple of years.)

We did some rearranging of the furniture at home today. Moved a bed and a couch and a play kitchen, so the girls have their own room now. TBD if they will actually sleep there on their own. ๐ค Went outside for a walk with Lumi right before bed, which is when I took the image above.

Went to the indoor swimming pool first thing in the morning, then a family visit and a late breakfast (lunch?) at the fฤฑrฤฑn (Turkish bakery). I also took lots of images today, so I'll just share a couple of them.

Hop on board! We recently removed the remaining child seat in favor of a seamless bench. Also, since the weather is so nice, we left the roof at home. (At least for now. I am sure I jinxed it now and it will be pouring down all summer long.)

Didn't have much time to take photos today, so my recent go-to it is.

Supermarket sushi break.
Something I did not anticipate when I created this blog was that it would inspire others to do the same. My reason for starting it was to take more photographs โ and more regularly. I myself was inspired by others as well. Most memorable is probably Daily Dose of Imagery from back in the day. (And many more, all of whom have since stopped posting.) Being that inspiration for someone else now is kind of incredible! So thanks to everyone who let me know and especially for sharing your photos on your own corner of the web โ and not on Instagram. We need more of that! Anyway: Check out Kevin's fresh new photo blog (RSS feed coming soon).

Feather. Photo from yesterday's visit to Gruga.
In other news the full gallery of beyond tellerrand 2025 in Dรผsseldorf is finally live. ๐ Got some lovely feedback already. Thank you so much for your kind words!

Spent four hours in Gruga this morning with the little one. (Kita was out today.) We had the park pretty much to ourself for the first two hours. Tried my hand on some panning shots. Quite hard to do in this particular case, because the zip line was not only going from left to right, but also bobbing up and down along the way. Got three "in-focus" images from about 30 shots. ๐คทโโ๏ธ Practice makes perfect I guess.
That was the best part of the day. When we were ready to leave, we found that the bike had a flat tire. ๐คฌ All plans I had for the rest of the day (e.g., getting some work done and releasing the beyond tellerrand gallery) were out the door at this point. The bike is critical for getting us anywhere during the day, so it had to be fixed right away. At least I got that done.

Roses in the backyard.
Went to the office for some quiet time to work on the final selection of my beyond tellerrand images earlier today. Not long now, almost done. ๐

The day started with a trip to the indoor swimming pool. Then we went to a cemetery, to lay down some flowers at the grave of one of Ulya's friend's mom, who died very unexpectedly last week. (The image above was taken inside that cemetery. It reminded me more of a (wild) park. Quite the nice place for a final rest.) Then we went grocery shopping for the week and then I slept for three hours on the couch.
One hundred posts in a row was yesterday. Time flies.

Observing light and shadow. Still not done with the wrapped trade fair building, although when I came by a second time today, they started to tear the wrapping down.
