It was a very rainy day today. As predicted I got my photos during my commute, or – in case of the first image – while at the office.

I was planning on attending Fujikina in Cologne on Saturday with my dad. Unfortunately he is down with the flu, so he won't be able to join me. I am still considering going by myself. Will any of you fine readers of this here blog attend by any chance? Let me know!

It is always fun to observe streets I walk every day from another vantage point – the dermatologist's office in this case. I am 80% sure I shot (and posted) these exact two images before, probably two years ago when I had the last checkup, but I wasn't able to find them just now. 🤷♂️

We watched The Lighthouse. Although I love me some monochrome and most scenes were quite stunning visually, the… non-story of it all was not really my cup of tea.

Went back to Gruga with the kids today. We carved two small pumpkins. They won't make it to Halloween, but they are too friendly for that anyway.

Back at Gruga for some dedicated photography time. Little did I know that it was absolutely packed! The nice weather plus the current "Essen erntet" festival seems to have drawn A LOT of people. Ventured off the beaten path a bit to find some calm. Earphones helped as well. I'd call this two hours well spent.

I made a really nice image of my daughter earlier. It perfectly captures her stance towards homework: pure disdain, with a side of resignation. (Poor thing.) But since I'm not comfortable sharing too many images that feature my children as the main subject, you get popcorn instead. (If you want to see the image, you have to come by for a visit and have a look at the next year's book, which will 100% feature this image.)

It's late and suddenly I realize: I need to post an image! Did I take any today? I seriously forget sometimes. Turns out I did — a couple from waiting for the kids after school. The graffiti practice wall again. Meh… I don't like the images, but do I want to find something at home to photograph, right now? No. So, the above image it is. A successful day in general. Photographically, not at all.

Came home from my evening walk with a rare color image. Incidentally, this is almost the same as the first ever color image on this blog. Slightly different perspective due to the wider lens and different time of day.

Zero wind at the kite festival. Such a pity. All those colorful contraptions – grounded. Bought two kites for the girls. (Probably way overpriced, but who's checking Amazon? I won't dare…) I find the second image very amusing. The guy in the fifth image was the only one who managed to fly his – extremely lightweight – kite, but only for a little while.
I enjoyed being out with the family and getting some photography time in and I learned something about gliders – the location is usually their airstrip.

Took a slightly different route to the office this morning and enjoyed the light. Made lots of A41 images, of which this one above I liked the most.
Oh! Totally forgot that the day before yesterday marked another milestone: 600 daily posts in a row. Almost didn't make it in time, because my hosting provider ran some server updates last night.

The kids created a TV set with remote control and a Nintendo Switch with a Pro controller from some of the cardboard we had left over from the bookshelf we set up yesterday.

Set up a proper bookshelf today, so all our books – including my photo books – finally moved out of the closet and into the open.

Lots of chestnuts are falling in the backyard. It is a proper safety hazard to go out there and collect them!

We came past the graffiti practice wall again. Briefly talked to the guy working on a piece there and found out that, with ~4.50 € per spray can, this is quite an expensive hobby/way to express yourself creatively. (He needs at least 3-4 cans for a wall of this size.) That is almost as expensive as film photography! 😂

This is my wife's Gedankenkiste (German for box of thoughts). It was one of my first presents to her (the box with the stenciled title) as a container for her diaries. It currently contains almost 28 years of handwritten diaries. She has tried many formats and notebooks over the years and it is a proper ritual every time a new one is prepared and the current one is archived. I'll probably have to get her another box soon.

It rained almost the whole day. There was a break in the late afternoon, which I used to head out with my camera. My headphones on with some music playing, I felt kinda inspired. (Although I recently heard someone say, that there is no such thing as inspiration and that you should just go out and play.) I walked these same streets hundreds – if not thousands – of times, but different things catch my eye every time – well at least when I am in photography mode. If my mind is occupied with other things, such as family or work, I don't see immediately and it takes some time to get into it. That's why it is more difficult to get photos I like during the week. Today though, I took the first image literally five seconds after I left the house.

Spent the day outside with the family and some friends. A rule is a rule: when you see a mirror (or a reflection), you take a selfie. I took two today!

Hung out at the playground after school – again. Between work and this new school thing for the little one, there's very little time for photography. Well, little dedicated photography time™. Let's hope for the weekend! 🤞
