A blog where Florian tries to post one photo per day.

Back home after spending a couple of relaxing days with my parents.

Balcony photo op.
Whenever I at my parents' I am taking my old X100F (which is now owned by my dad) out of the cupboard and take a couple of images, just like the one above. Such a lovely little camera.

Town square photo op.

Selfie with her cousin.

Empty lot.
No playgrounds today, because it was raining all day. Getting ready for a trip to my parents. It's so funny watching the small one pack her backpack: Among other things, she packed: Her real (working) camera, but also her wooden toy camera and a seashell. 🤷♂️ I am sure there are small stones in there as well. She collects them everywhere.

Another day, another playground. I think at some point we need to start reviewing/rating all the playgrounds we visit on the regular.

Window cleaners at the toy store.
The kids' grandma found a couple bills yesterday. (As there was no way to trace the money back to the owner, she gave some of it to her grandchildren.) Thus, a trip to the toy store earlier today. 😅

I often think about how photography shapes my life in various ways. One strategy that has been quite effective for me: When there is an event or a commitment I am not looking forward to, I can shift my perspective by telling myself, 'I might at least get a couple of decent photos out of this!' This has been working remarkably well.
No mental tricks needed for this photo, though, as I love hanging out at the park with the kids. 🙂

Finally, time for some intentional photography! Headed out to the Sechs-Seen-Platte in Duisburg with Daniel for a nice, long photowalk. I'll share a couple more images tomorrow.
Remember my Project 366 photo zine? I sent out Part I in October 2024. All but one recipient got their copy shortly after. Then, a couple of weeks ago one of the packages came back, after months in limbo! Turns out it made its way all the way to Canada – and then back to me. We are not sure what happened exactly (apparently there was a postal strike during that time in Canada). I'll ship it again next week and keep my fingers crossed that it'll reach its destination this time around. 🤞

Scooter taxi.

Last day of work today. I'd call that a precision landing: Finished up all remaining client projects and now… now, what? 🙂 I am actually happy I don't have everything planned out for the next couple of weeks. We'll visit my parents for a while and then we will travel to the Netherlands to dip our toes into the ocean in early August. I hope to spend a lot of time outside with the girls. And I hopefully will find some intentional photography time. (Photo from yesterday, when Lumi came to the office with me.)

Airship.

Empty flat. (Not ours.)

Worked a lot today. It's always getting a bit stressful right before a vacation. 🤷♂️

Saw this dude when I went to get lunch. I assume he was doing some time-lapse photography with the cars passing by. Took another photo on my way back to the office. Not sure if that was a political statement or performance art. Anyway, when I took his picture, he gave me a thumbs up. 😅

Raindrops and bokeh balls.

The girls are comparing how much ice cream remains.
Never heard of the Mammutmarsch (Engl. mammoth march), which started from the center of Gruga Park today. I talked to a participant who said he was going to walk 75km in about 15 hours. So with a starting time of 16:00, he'll be back at the goal line at 7 in the morning. 🤷♂️

Bumblebee.
Started playing Donkey Kong Bananza in co-op mode with Lumi. It is a really fun game, and the second player can really help (or create total chaos). It's also possible to mirror the screen on the old Switch using game share, so each of us could play on a separate console. Pretty neat, when not at home.

This snail has been living in the tree in front of our house for a couple of days now. The kids look for it every morning and are usually able to find it on yet another branch. I'll suggest that we give the snail a name.

Waiting out the down-pour below an underpass. They don't care, they have a roof on the bike, me however, I only have my rain gear.
I am kind of struggling with the photo blog currently. I am not really happy with the images I am posting (although I like today's), but that is mostly due to the fact that I am not able to make time to intentionally (for lack of a better word) take photographs. It happens in passing, during my commute or when I am running errands.

We watched Blade for yet another movie night. Sven and Tim are heavy users of Letterboxd, so Jones and I will try to keep up. (Not sure how that will go, because I always forget to log/rate the stuff I watched. 🤷♂️) Anyway: Find me here.

The eggs are in a mood.

Went on a small cycling tour with my daughter today. She said we need to do this more often, which is fine with me. 🙂 I took the first image above when we were crossing a bridge over the Autobahn. (View in the opposite direction, eight years ago!)

Old hospital in Velbert. We did another test drive this morning as Ulya will have to do the trip on her own the next couple of weeks.

Only took photos of the kids today, so you get this sofa on the front lawn from a couple of days ago.

The only image I took today. The last couple of days have been kinda hard, keeping this daily thing going. I just have to make it through and it will become easier again. Can't wait for our family vacation to start!

Observing light and shadow.

Watching some live sports.

Had a nice, short walk just now. Made some time to take photos. Ulya is in the middle of her exam period. Two more exams to go, and then we'll get some normalcy back. 🤞
