Wrestling! My last visit to wXw Academy was in early 2023, and recently I wanted to check it out again. Man, am I rusty with the rangefinder! I've gotten lazy and mainly used my Fujifilm camera lately β and it shows in my photograps. Not many keepers, but I still managed to get a handful of images that I like. Another thing I used to do, was to send pictures to the wrestlers. But since I no longer use Instagram, there is no easy way to connect. π€·ββοΈ (They should invest in personal websites.)

She made a cat fairy.

Fire brigade open day in Essen. Lots of activities for the kids to explore. Among other things, they demonstrated what happens when you pour water into burning oil, of which I made a (very short) timelapse video.

Yesterday I took part in a photo walk organized by the Fujifilm X Den in DΓΌsseldorf's old town. I borrowed an X-E5, but my actual reason for going was that I wanted to check out the new 23mm F/2.8 once more. Since I was quite late, unfortunately they had all already been given out to other people. Oh well, I used the 33mm F/1.4 instead and still had a great time. π

They are back! After their original nest was destroyed (we don't know how it happened, it was just gone one day), they have built a new one on another branch. The vantage point to observe and photograph is not as good as the original, but I managed to get a couple of shots anyway. It seems they are still building the nest. We weren't able to see any eggs yet. Keeping our fingers crossed. π€

Yikes. That almost never happens: Forgot to post the image! (Even though I selected it and it was ready.) Anyway, per the rules I am allowed to backdate. Let's not speak of this again.

Back on the ol' commute.

Last day of my vacation. Tomorrow, it's back to work. It is also the first day of school. Posting on this here blog felt pretty effortless during the last four weeks β let's see how going back to the office will affect image making going forward. π

Family photo excursion. Remember that camera we found yesterday? The little one already put it to good use today. (And wow is film expensive these days! π±) She went through her one roll quite quickly and only has a couple of shots left.

It's my birthday today! π Went out with the kids in the morning, found an old film camera (in full working condition, with new batteries; we need to buy film though), Lumi lost another tooth, and we ate some cake. Also, thanks, Daniel, for the family portrait!

Dark clouds over A41.

Cleaning up. The kids' room is a mess most of the time. Expecting guests is always a great reason to remind them to do some cleanup β even under their bed. π

Played some badminton in the backyard today.

Spent the day at Gruga. I said this before: We have been here a hundred times (no exaggeration), but we still find new things to do and parts to explore. I am so glad we have this park close by. (The annual ticket is a no-brainer.)

At the Stadtgarten playground with the kids. There is this one 'tandem' swing that they love, and we always come back here for it. Right next to the swing is where I took the above photo. I shot the tower from a very similar perspective a couple of years ago during winter.

Kirmes visit. Not sure whether I am getting older or if the different attractions are competing with their (shitty) music even louder than in previous years. It is very exhausting, tbh. The whole experience could be so much better if they all just played the same music at the same time β and at a level where a normal conversation is still possible. π€·ββοΈ Anyway, the bumper cars and the small roller coaster were fun, as was the cotton candy.

Backyard harvest. Being turned into fries by Anneanne as we speak. π
Oh, almost forgot: This marks 200 days of daily posting, once again.

Yet another mirror selfie.

We went to the beach this morning. At this time of day, the parking is still free (it gets crazy expensive starting at 10), and the only people there are taking their dogs for a walk. Oh β and the sun is not yet burning everything to a crisp. So, win-win!

Supermarket mirror selfie.

It is crazy hot here in the Netherlands, so we opted to visit the (very well air-conditioned) Sea Aquarium today β instead of subjecting ourselves to the unforgiving sun at the beach again.

Vacation home vibes.
We spent the whole day at the beach even before getting to our vacation home yesterday. Today, we had a chill morning with our friends and will probably head back to the beach later.

π Hallo Nederland!
Coincidentally, the last time we went to the Netherlands as a family, the previous post had an image of the airship. (Although I didn't post daily back then, so there were two weeks between the shots.)

Spent some time in the backyard today.
Bags are packed. (A hopefully short) travel day tomorrow.

Attic window.

Weekly ritual.

Spent the day at Irrland. It was pretty packed, which was to be expected due to the nice weather and the fact that it is summer vacation time. It was our first time there, and the thing that struck me as very well thought out was the amount of seating options (benches and tables) available all over the park. Waiting times for food were alright, and prices were quite decent also. The kids had a lovely time, which is the most important thing! I am sure we'll be back.

Impressions from a backyard garden. I don't know why my eyes are always drawn to the abandoned, weathered, decrepit details. You probably wouldn't feel that at all when entering this particular garden. But I inevitably point my camera in the direction of the worn-out tools, the broken table, or the cracks in the wall. Not sure what that says about me. π
