My first engagement with ChatGPt Agent...
Me: "What's the next event on my calendar?"
Agent: Thinks
Agent: Thinks more
Me: Goes to make tea.
Time passes.
Agent: "Your next event is daily stand-up today at 9:05AM."
"Also, apologies, but I seem to have deleted the previous event in your calendar. Would you like me to restore it?"
How is it that within 10 minutes of the Online Safety Act, Ofcom is investigating 34 porn sites, yet in 30 years of disability legislation in the UK there hasn't been a single instance of case law for websites or apps because the EHRC has signally failed to support people with disabilities even when there is a strong case to be made? 😩
Does anyone know of a place to find Mastodon accounts for newspapers, media outlets, and also tech related journals/publications? TIA.

America has withdrawn from UNESCO. Again. Apparently it's not in its "national interests".
I take this to mean that #MAGA thinks that UNESCO World Heritage sites... like the Statue of Liberty, Monticello, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks, Independence Hall, the Hawaii Volcanoes, or the Carlsbad Caverns, are not in its best interests.

In 1994 the UK voted the widget inside a can of Guinness as Invention of the Year.
The Internet came second.
Yes, yes, I know that far more people were probably drinking Guinness than using the interwebs back in 1994, but c'mon... 😂

In 1997, Mary Schmich published a guide to life in the Chicago Tribune. In 1999, Baz Lurhmann turned it into a chillout anthem called Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen).
It was, and remains, some of the best advice for life I've ever heard...

We've been turning out and I came across an old newspaper I own, dated 23 November 1963 - the day the UK headlines reported that JFK had been assassinated.
I came across it originally about 30 years ago underneath a pub carpet where it'd been used as underlay, presumably sometime in late 1963.
Also came across a leatherbound journal dated 1895, apparently written by one James Smith and dedicated to someone called Mabel.
It's full of quotes, poems, and excerpts from hymns including one by Charles Wesley.
I have no idea where it came from or who the owner might be. The handwriting is barely legible in places, though there is what I think is a piece of pink blotting paper still tucked in the back.

Listening to Ben Loewenstein, Waymo's Head of UK and EU regulation and policy, talk about autonomous car accessibility for blind and low vision people.
Have to acknowledge that Waymo has clearly given it a lot of thought.
It seems that Windows 11 doesn't load the modifier key tables, so even though the shortcuts are exposed in the UI, they don't work. 😩
On the upside, a slightly quicker way to open a folder in Terminal is to type "wt" into the folder address bar, which is a bit less faffing about than going via the context menu at any rate.
If you're curious how AI is redefining #accessibility, why not come to AI and Accessibility Day hosted by We Are Developers on 5 June:

You can use code A11YDAY_Leonie
for 15% off too.
Dear Fediverse, does anyone know why keyboard shortcuts that use Alt as the modifier in the Windows 11 right click/context menu might not be working?
For example Alt t is supposed to open Terminal on the current folder, and Alt o is supposed to open More options on the context menu, but neither seems to work.
You might not know that migratory birds like Swifts and Starlings are in trouble in the UK because modern houses have nowhere for them to nest.
The solution is to include a single £35 "swift brick" in every new build (a hollow brick that creates a nesting spot).
The Labour Gov is blocking the proposal to mandate this, and I've just signed this petition to encourage them not to:
https://act.38degrees.org.uk/act/swifts-petition
Note: the donation at the end is optional.
Good grief. made a pot of tea that's sticking to even my ribs (and my ribs are quite accustomed to tea you could stand a spoon up in).
