Drove to Wuppertal today to take part in a 40th day memorial gathering for a friend's mother who passed away very unexpectedly recently. The kids did not enjoy the heat, but they are slowly getting used to riding in the car.

Pretty full day today. Normally I don't get to take many images when there's lots of work or other commitments, but today it worked out somehow and I took lots of images as the day went along. Oh, and I finally managed to watch another movie with the boys again (Insomnia, with a tired-ass looking Al Pacino) – last time was back in December!
In other news, we finally released a long-awaited update for picu Pro, which introduces e-commerce functionality.

Took out the 18-55mm. I seldomly use zoom lenses, but this kit lens is really superb.

We escaped the heat by taking a stroll through the woods. Nice temperature and some (fenced-in) wildlife. Glad I took the long lens, which rarely sees any action nowadays.

Love hanging out near the water, even if it is this health hazard-looking slurry of a fountain. 😅 (Not really apparent in the image, but it is bright green and full of foamy streaks. Doesn't smell, though.)
The brand new X-E5 sure looks nice. Very strong iteration from the previous generation. (Which I sold to buy the X-T5, so I am currently not in the market for a new camera.) But the new 23mm 2.8 is very interesting. I love the compact size of the 27mm 2.8, but 40mm full-frame equivalent still feels a bit off – even though I have gotten a lot more used to it. So a proper 35 in the same form factor? Very tempting indeed! How many 35mm lenses does one need? 🙈

We lost another tree this morning. This one, formerly in front of the house, was very beautiful when in full bloom. Suvi will be so sad when she comes home. 🥺

Took a final glance out the hotel window before heading to the train station. Almost home now, got about an hour left (🤞), looking forward to seeing my girls!
WCEU was great, especially the hallway track. Had many inspiring conversations – even during the after party last night. 😁 I always leave motivated to get back to work, especially on picu, where we have a major release coming up in the coming weeks. 🙌

A couple of impressions from the first day of WordCamp Europe 2025 in Basel. As always, the greatest part of the event is catching up with people, some of whom I have now known for twelve years, since the first WCEU in Leiden back in 2013. Looking forward to tomorrow!

Made it to Basel. My train was only 10 minutes late. (🤫 Don't jinx it for the way back.) Got very lucky with the view from the hotel room. Went to the venue to get my badge, took a look into the main auditorium, where the contributor day was taking place. Went to the social event with Claudio, which took place in Basel's football stadium. Looking forwad to seeing everyone tomorrow!

What a day. 😵 Our bike had a flat tire right when starting our morning commute. Fortunately we made it back and got the car in time so nobody was late. Immediately went home and fixed the tire – only to have it go flat again when I was on my way to fetch the kids. Ugh! I thought I did a pretty thorough inspection earlier, but something is definitely amiss. Now I need to order a new tire casing (it's pretty worn out anyway) and then double check everything again.
I hate using the car btw because it is so sloooow. 😩 And don't get me started about parking! I can't for the life of me understand why people do this to themselves every day. At least here in the city the bike is so much more convenient – and faster!
Also, it seems like these bike troubles are always cropping up, right before I go on a trip. What's up with that?!

Went to the indoor swimming pool again. I have a lot of time to take mirror "selfies", while waiting for the rest of the family.
Looking forward to heading to Basel next week for WCEU. I think I want to take some more photographs this year and maybe make a zine from the images. Just as an exercise to test a new format – probably A5. And now that I made this public statement about it, the likelihood of it actually happening is greater than zero. 😊 I'll have a five hour train ride to come up with a concept and design – and another train ride back home, where I can do the editing and sequencing.
