Made it out of the house (yay!) – to take the little one trick-or-treatin'. I did not tell her to put her bag right onto the light, btw – she just wanted to inspect her haul. Now I need to lie down again. 😴

On a more positive note: Lots of work went into this blog today. I added more slash pages. There is now /blogroll and /uses, both are still works in progress. I updated the Photo Stats Kirby plugin so that the stats now calculate the focal lengths for medium format cameras correctly. Caching across the site should also be much improved and users of a Chromium-based browser should see a cross-fade transition when navigating between posts.

A tree (a beautiful weeping willow) fell down in our favorite park during last night's storm. People passing by were genuinely sad. Unfortunately, today the wind wasn't steady enough to properly fly our kites. The afternoon will be spent inside playing Switch Sports Resort.
Switched cameras with dad again. This time I used the GFX100RF. This is way more in line with my weight preferences. Beautiful camera.

Dedicated Photography Time™ with my dad. 🙌 Usually when my parents visit the weather is bad, so I somehow seldom get to go out to photograph with my dad. Today though, it was quite nice, so we drove to Landschaftspark Nord in Duisburg. We also switched cameras for the day, because my dad wanted to once and for all rule out a Leica M body for himself, hoping he would not be able to produce sharp images. He is sitting across from me now, looking through his photographs from today, and he hasn't found any out-of-focus images yet, so I guess he's looking to buy an M now! Anyway, I used his GFX100S with a 45-100 mm lens to take the above images. The camera is a beast. The image quality and resolution is quite stunning, but I am very glad I don't usually have to lug around such heavy equipment. 🙂

Puzzlin'.
As you might have noticed, I am retiring the like function of this blog. It wasn't widely used, I think. (I only get the number of likes per post, I have no idea who likes a post.) The likes were saved in a cookie in the user's browser, so if you have ever liked a post, you should have seen the popup, which allows you to export those likes as a bookmark file. Going forward, if you find a post or photo interesting, I’d love for you to reply via email!

Second post about yesterday's Dedicated Photography Time with Daniel. The photos above are from our visit to Halde Norddeutschland. 359 steps to get up there. (I need some cardio training in my life.) It was pretty windy at the top. Winter is coming. Still enjoyed myself tremendously.

Dedicated Photography Time with Daniel! 🙌 We visited two Halden today, so I will split the photos into two posts. This first one from Halde Rheinpreußen. No rain, just a very dark and moody sky, exactly how I like it – at least when it comes to my photography. Glad I decided to bring my long lens – the view from both locations was quite spectacular.

Had a proper fire brigade call-out on our street today. The smoke alarm went off two houses down and one of the neighbors made the call. No fire after all and we are not sure what exactly happened, but the fact that they arrived with four vehicles only three minutes after the call went out is somewhat reassuring.
In other news, starting today, this here blog has a proper about page. I wanted to make it a little more self-contained instead of linking out to the other website, which is rarely ever updated.

Another evening walk, forcing myself to find something to photograph. I have noticed that I keep looking up a lot. Not sure why. Probably the light in the late afternoon hitting the buildings and trees. Anyway, I am quite happy with today's images.
I really enjoy being on Mastodon these days. I might have curated my feed (aka the people I follow) to consist mostly of delightful people, which helps tremendously.

I finally published the blog post I have had in my drafts folder for weeks now, about how I imported my shared albums from iCloud into Immich, without creating 30,000 duplicates.

Took another color image from almost the exact same position (a couple of steps to the right, actually) in early 2026. This time, the colors inside the building looked interesting, but didn't work very well on their own. Hence the idea of using a long exposure to get some more movement/lights in the foreground. It took a couple of minutes until I had cars crossing in front of me. The result is ok, but I am more happy about the fact that I headed out with the intention of making an image and succeeded! 🙂

It is always fun to observe streets I walk every day from another vantage point – the dermatologist's office in this case. I am 80% sure I shot (and posted) these exact two images before, probably two years ago when I had the last checkup, but I wasn't able to find them just now. 🤷♂️

We watched The Lighthouse. Although I love me some monochrome and most scenes were quite stunning visually, the… non-story of it all was not really my cup of tea.

Went back to Gruga with the kids today. We carved two small pumpkins. They won't make it to Halloween, but they are too friendly for that anyway.

Back at Gruga for some dedicated photography time. Little did I know that it was absolutely packed! The nice weather plus the current "Essen erntet" festival seems to have drawn A LOT of people. Ventured off the beaten path a bit to find some calm. Earphones helped as well. I'd call this two hours well spent.
