oh gawd i'm behind on these '2024 on 35mm' videos. i blame april. april was the windiest month i have ever experienced and honestly it made so much of the video that i captured unusable to the point i just gave in and used mostly music by @StephenMcLeod instead.

In this Sofa Session Martin Parr is in conversation with Manchester born photographer Peter Mitchell. Peter was a pioneer of colour photography, being the first to have a show of colour work in a photography gallery in the UK.

Originally a printmaker, Martin and Peter discuss the journey from printmaking to photography, rediscovering unpublished work, and working on the retrospective exhibition of photography and ephemera opening at Leeds Art Gallery 17 MAY 2024.

This Sofa Session has been released to coincide with the publication of Nothing Lasts Forever, a new photobook by Peter Mitchell from RRB Photobooks, which accompanies the exhibition in Leeds. Martin Parr talks photography with Maggie Murray and Brenda Prince in this Sofa Session, touching on Format photographic agency and the miners strike.

Brenda and Maggie were founding members of Format in 1983, the first all-woman photographic agency.

They discuss their experience as photojournalists and Brenda's photographic practice documenting women who undertake non-traditional work roles, as well as her work highlighting the role women played during the 1984 miners' strike.

This Sofa Session has been produced to coincide with the MPF exhibition ONE YEAR! Photographs from the miners’ strike 1984 - 85, on display 18 JAN to 31 MAR 2024.

This episode explores my entry into the world of film photography and how a top laboratory, in our case, Bayeux in London, operates today. We see how the pros get it done, the whole process from developing to drum scanning.
