Seeing the DFB-Pokal final through the refcam is such an amazing perspective. Great stuff! 👏

You might not know that migratory birds like Swifts and Starlings are in trouble in the UK because modern houses have nowhere for them to nest.
The solution is to include a single £35 "swift brick" in every new build (a hollow brick that creates a nesting spot).
The Labour Gov is blocking the proposal to mandate this, and I've just signed this petition to encourage them not to:

Note: the donation at the end is optional.

Weekly Roundup #014

Hello hello! It's been a busy week in my own time, hopping around with different passion project odds and sods! First off, I finished writing a mega-blog about the making of the Beyond Tellerrand titles. It's a big ol' bugger, so make yourself a cuppa
Morning all! New Weekly Update blog is live! https://blog.jam-factory.com/weekly-roundup-014/
In other news, I can’t concentrate because tomorrow ………… 😱🤍♥️ #VfB #dfbpokal #wirholendenpokal
Alright, so … websites.
Guy sitting across from me on the commuter train home has an open beer in paper bag and is watching a show on his phone with the volume up, no headphones. Just doin’ his thing on a rush hour train.
Just to name just a few bugs: text is suddenly jumping to different positions, some gradients are flipped in the opposite direction while editing, I get sudden color changes for multiple elements although I was changing the color for just one element, and my collaborator can’t see images I added to the layout. Also, the color picker just stopped working completely in my project – whenever I want to pick a color, Penpot crashes.
And as the project has grown a little, zooming and panning is now starting to get really laggy… 😕
Hope the team fixes most of those issues quickly, because overall it definitely is an impressive open-source tool. 👏💚
Heading to London today to give a talk at D&AD festival! I’m so stoked I get the closing slot - 2.40pm on the Queen Elizabeth Hall stage! I’m gonna bring the noise, neon and nonsense! ⚡️💥🎉

“Curiosity thrives in the space between expected and unexpected, between map and territory” - @joanwestenberg.com - love this (and will def be incorporating this in my talk on curiosity and its role in design the next time I give it!) see also: need to talk to @ethanmarcotte.com about curiosity too
Good grief. made a pot of tea that's sticking to even my ribs (and my ribs are quite accustomed to tea you could stand a spoon up in).
I joined host Peter White on BBC Radio 4's In Touch programme ast night, to chat about the forthcoming European Accessibility Act (EAA) and what impact it might have on blind and low vision people in the UK (if any):

Hey internet! I've been working on a mega blog, going behind the scenes of how I made and 'played' the @beyondtellerrand.com titles! Put the kettle on and settle down for a good ol' read: https://blog.jam-factory.com/behind-the-scenes-beyond-tellerrand-2025-title-sequence/

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov

Before reading this classic on robots and machines I had no idea it was a series of nine short stories. Of course the Will Smith film has absolutely nothing to do with the book except a borrowed title and a character name. Thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end, still as relevant today – if not more so, with the creation of the Three Laws of Robotics underpinning all the stories. My favourite chapter was probably chapter eight – Evidence.
