Song of the Day: The Idea by Stacey Ryan

I love a song that can stand up to the simplest possible presentation. The words: I, I miss that feeling– the feeling of somebody close I, I crave that feeling– the feeling that I miss the most Empathy is part of me and everything that comes with it is first class I’m riding in economy...

I was looking forward to Season 4 of Industry, but found the first episode unwatchable. Lots of yelling. New characters angry and arguing about nothing, dramatic music mocks the awful writing and acting. Does it get better? Reviewers loved it. I've seen this before. Previous seasons were great, so the next season automatically must be great too.

New Man

I ended a post with the following in 2007. I am eggs of all kinds. I am the Chrome Dinette. And you are my sofa. Those are lyrics from a Frank Zappa song. Translated from German. It is, of course, absurdist. Ich bin Eier aller Arten. Ich bin der Chrome Dinette. Und du bist mein...

Watched: Hamnet. Really great. Won’t ever see Hamlet the same way again. 🍿

I remember liking the first three seasons of Industry on HBO, so I just watched them again. It's a Succession clone, in a way, not exactly the same story, but the same type of story. I waited until the final episode of Season 4 had aired to start at the beginning. So now I'l...

Remember when, just weeks ago, the Dems told the military that they must not obey illegal orders. We passed that red line when they obeyed orders to start a war that had not been declared by Congress.

Eventually we’re going to have OpenClaw-like assistants that can filter or prioritize emails and calls, but for now I wish there was some kind of voicemail scripting. If a voicemail transcript contains “$”, delete it.

I have a few blog post drafts about recent AI controversy and advertising that I may post eventually, but for now I do want to note Dario Amodei’s blog post on the ongoing negotiations with the military. I thought his leaked internal post was in poor taste, overly personal, so I like his apology here to correct the record:

It was a difficult day for the company, and I apologize for the tone of the post. It does not reflect my careful or considered views. It was also written six days ago, and is an out-of-date assessment of the current situation.

Simon Carstensen has rebuilt Jottit, the web publishing tool he built with Aaron Swartz in 2007:

Aaron believed the web should be easy enough that anyone could participate. Not just people who know how to code or who can afford a platform’s cut.
