Sometimes I forget about the way Micro.blog archives any web page you link to or bookmark, including images and styling. I just checked the database and there are hundreds of thousands of web pages and millions of resources. Slowly turning into a personal, miniature Internet Archive.

I think Sandbar is on to something with their ring. I’ve wanted a faster way to record notes and post drafts for a while. But the Apple Watch should really be able to do this.

Thinking about how much code is written by AI is becoming less interesting to me. We didn’t used to care how much code was written by literal copy and pasting. Although maybe we should have? 🤪

Screen shot of DemoLand a new thing I'm doing that shows a developer how to hook up to WordPress using the same server I'm using for WordLand. If they do that, our products will work on the same data, in Markdown of course. The user will get to use two different editors to work on the text. This is important because in the social network I'm imagining every part is replaceable. It takes work to make that real, but I have done the work. In this network the user will have choice of writing tools. Unlike products like Substack, for example, where you're forced to use their editor.

I need to have my posts from scripting.com flow through the Daveverse site, because the WordPress view of my writing is becoming more important. Not surprising, I've been reaching out to that world for a while now, and there have been real responses. I find myself copy/pasting again, and I have to start viewing every one of those as a bug to fix.

Mimi Lamarre at Switchboard Magazine has a delightful long read in The Curious Case of Kaycee Nicole, where, in the early days of online communities and blogging, a fake person claimed to have leukemia. The blogging community was relatively small back then, and I recall some of this happening contemporarily.

OpenAI continues to shoot for the moon. Based on a tweet by Sam Altman, they seem fairly clear-eyed about it. It’s a gamble that AI will be needed everywhere. OpenAI will either succeed or fail spectacularly.

I would bet on OpenAI long before the likes of Perplexity and startups riding only hype.

Enjoyed this video with Matt Mullenweg and John Borthwick. I thought I was familiar with Betaworks, but I had never actually heard John speak. Some interesting thoughts here about the future.
