I remember the feeling of the light shining around and through the curtains. Then there was music: melodies in chirp. I wanted to close my eyes and go back to sleep for just a while longer, enjoying the warmth of my bed, but I didn’t want to forget the light and the music – there was a moment so wonderful just behind the curtain. Bird song plays the role that so many people do and have done in my life: the bird song is the music that starts my day. I wonder if the birds know how far their songs carry, how we notice the patterns and changes in their tone, how we find both wonder and joy in figuring out from where the song calls, how their song starts and adds life to the day. ActivityPub is notorious for being a little chatty, and FEP-044f (quote posts) is sort of an extreme example of that. Lots of back and forth between servers, approving quotes, fetching content, deleting approval stamps, etc. I’m not saying I have a better idea… except <blockquote>. 🤪

A couple of days ago I saw a post from Evan Prodromou asking if I had seen a product announcement, and was wondering what I thought of the name. I said it was the first I heard of it. They called their product Really Simple Lip Balm. I told him it was the first I heard about it, so I didn't know. A few days later it doesn't feel good. Kind of like feeling slimed. You don't see people coming out with products named Slaughterhouse Five, for good reason. Think of something original. Something that expresses your idea as something more than a ripoff. That's about all I have to say about it at this time.

The nightly email didn't go out last night at midnight Eastern. I believe I've found the cause and have implemented a workaround. Testing now, and with any luck last night's mail will go out in a few minutes. Still diggin.

Working in Go this morning! Micro.blog obviously uses Hugo, written in Go, but we also have a little custom Go tool that runs behind the scenes for newsletters, with more to come. Nice to have a common template language.

Nick Heer blogging about the win Automattic got this week in having some of the charges in the lawsuit from WP Engine dismissed:

Even if this case ends with a complete victory for Mullenweg and Automattic, his actions have shaken my support of — and faith in — the WordPress ecosystem.

While I do think there has been damage to the WordPress community, if Automattic wins most of the case, maybe settles the rest, I don’t know if there will be significant lasting damage. The views from WordCamp US this month didn’t look like a community in decline.
