Own Your Web – Issue 8: On a Roll

Hi All! 🤗 “Where have all the websites gone?” “Websites, as we know them, are dead.” “Blogging is dead.” I don’t know about you, but whenever I hear or read statements like that in controversial headlines or viral posts, I can’t help but think: “No! All of that is still here...

TypePad feeds are back

It's time for some chat about RSS/Atom feeds, and let's start with some good news. A few months ago, when we were fetching the feeds of any TypePad blogs, they were returning a "403 Forbidden" error because they were protected by Cloudflare's anti-bot captcha mechanism. Cloudflare have a list of approved bots but to get on their list you must satisfy various conditions, including sending at least 1000 requests per day. ooh.directory isn't that big or aggressive, so it wasn't a surprise that we never heard anything back from our application.

Hier bloggt der Chef noch selbst

Vor ein paar Tagen schrieb Tantek Çelik (@tantek.com) auf seinem Blog: No large language models (LLM) were used in the production of this post. Inspired by a subtle but clear sign-of-the-times one-line disclaimer at the end of RFC9518’s Acknowledgments (https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9518.html#appendix-A-4) Ich weiß nicht ob „inspiriert“ hier der richtige Begriff ist… ich weiß was er meint […]

All Things Being Equalized

For my birthday, I got a new pair of speakers for my home office / home studio. After looking around for quite some time, I settled on the ADAM Audio T5V in the end. The T5Vs are affordable, entry-level studio monitors with a 5“ woofer that are optimized for smaller rooms. A...

42 for 42

I’m turning 42 today and yes, I am as surprised about that number as you are. If 42 really is the answer to life, the universe, and everything, then maybe it makes sense to look back on what the old lad actually le...

A page for every blog

A couple of months ago regular visitors might have noticed a little change to the site – every blog now has its own page. Now that this is working smoothly, and seasonal holidays are out of the way, here's the blog post about that change.

The Best Comment Section on the Internet

Matt Mullenweg, co-founder of WordPress and CEO of Automattic, recently sat down with Tim Ferriss to talk about a bunch of different things. One of those things: blogging. It might not come as a surprise, but Matt described blogging as one of the most rewarding things he did...
