I really enjoyed the IndieWeb Movie Club May 2025 submissions about the film “Tomorrowland”. Ordered from earliest to most recent:* Paolo Feadin: https://www.feadin.eu/en/posts/tomorrowland* Thomas Vander Wal: https://vanderwal.net/random/entrysel.php?blog=2119* gRegor Morril...
Artemis Changelog #6
Artemis, the calm web reader I maintain, has a few new features. Below is a summary.
You can now use break mode, holiday mode, and night mode to pause your feed. Catch-up mode lets you review posts published in a specified number of days grouped by author. You can show up to...
Designing calm software with breaks in mind
I refer to Artemis as a “calm web reader”. I have designed the software to avoid common triggers that cause people to periodically check a piece of software. There are no notifications. All post titles are on one page; there are no folders. There is a “read” state, but this ...
@patrick_h_lauke Sitze gerade in einer Barcamp-Session und wir freuen uns gemeinsam über eine deiner elaboriertesten Antworten auf ein Github-Issue 😜 (formal komplett korrekt übrigens) Ich feiere! 😅
Tomorrowland (IndieWeb Movie Club)
I have watched Tomorrowland several times. In the movie, it is revealed that a society of geniuses made another world: a place where they could go to invent and explore and wonder without distraction. But the other world – Tomorrowland – invented something they shouldn’t hav...
Ice Floes
I saw Monet’s Ice Floes for the first time in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It stood out among all of the Impressionist paintings in the room, in large part because of its brightness but relative lack of colour. The painting depicts ice on the river Seine, one of Monet’s m...

Mary Poppins / Travers / Disney
For Jo’s IndieWeb Movie Club of June 2025, I watched 2 movies. Mary Poppins and Saving Mr. Banks. I find myself not sure how I feel, or rather having too many feelings about each to really narrow down my feelings to a pithy recommendation about the films. I feel like I could write an essay, or at...

What I’m doing now
Sports
I'm running, cycling and swimming on most days of the week if time allows it. I managed to get back into racing in 2025 as I took part in the Weltkulturerbelauf Bamberg half marathon. There are no fixed races for 2026 yet, but I hope to take part in one or two of them...

Next week the Comics-themed group show starts up at Subterranean coffeehouse in North Park. It’s a great neighborhood to come hang out in. Bookstores, art stores, costume stores, used toy stores all in a tight radius. Great coffee and food and a mellow hangout. Follow @arthang_sandiego & @subterranean_northpark for more and get down there. I have a piece up called “Cousins.” There are some really amazing pieces for this group show.

Last weekend I visited The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, an art collection that showcases mainly Impressionist and Medieval art, with some other genres too. The gallery was unlike any other I have visited. The outside of the building was modern: constructed with grey li...
