Ground

Rain may exist, but so too do clear skies, and the possibility for something to start serendipitously, like a raindrop falling from a sky once dry or a wave from a friend you never expected to see. (In Romantics, VI) I wave with words. I weave and paint with words -- with p...

Meaning

What does the concrete path mean to me? In the mirrored ground I see many meanings. Here is a place I have stopped to think. Here is a place over which I have idly walked on my way to somewhere familiar or somewhere new. Here is a vein of the city, made by all those who wal...

And the fact that Alex Turner came up with the title by texting him the word “Kalopsia” (because they both love weird words) only adds to the legend.

The whole album …Like Clockwork is brilliant. Glad I found it at last. 😊

Such a beautiful song. 🖤 Especially when you know that Josh Homme wrote it for his daughter, as he mentioned on Norah Jones’s podcast … (also worth a listen!)

“Oh, why you so sad? What have they done?
Forget those mindless baboons, they're off playing God
Copycats in cheap suits are playing it safe
While cannibals of bad news consume a parade”

Romantics, VI

Rain falling from the sky, I looked downward to the concrete path. The concrete became a solid, watery mirror, reflecting back thoughts and questions. How can I romanticise while staying grounded? I appreciate the rain: falling water after a dry season. When something is go...

Of Days

I have thought about winter through all the seasons this year. The season has become something of a frame of reference – of times when days are shorter and the air is colder, and of times where the brilliant blue skies come alive in the stillness of the season. I spend less ...

Walking

I stand before Nature, looking up to a castle bathed in gold light. What are perfect places? I wonder if this is the closest I’ll find: with the air of home and the light of Day, with the breeze in the trees and history to see; with life in the moment and rhythm and movement...

The views

“Wow, look at the views!” called out a young girl, maybe four years old, on the train. After making a few more observations, she repeated the words — “Look at the views.” — then said “Dad, I can see the forest.” “Wow, look at those stones. They are so big.”

It was a delight to hear the world narrated through another’s eyes, to have what I saw out the window verbalised, giving room for me to think about the forest, to notice the stones — to hear how there is always something to see wherever we look.

The family were a few tables away, but their voices carried far.

Sunflowers in the Sky

“I wonder what it’s like – “ “You can keep wondering”, said Oliver, interrupting Jenny. “It’s not real. It can’t be real. I mean, you’re studying physics. Tell me on what basis people could fly.” Oliver was a terrific tutor, but never quite mastered the art of tact in conve...

Pages

What can hold the essence of day and night, warmth and cold, art and story, and time and space? Pages. (and hearts.) ⁂ ⁂ ⁂ When I look around, I see and feel the presence of pages in my life. To my right are two textbooks – one on art and its environments, the other on cre...

📄 FLE updates

Last week, I received a nice comment about my little 35mm Focal Length
Equivalents site (short: FLE). And that was enough motivation to improve
the site. I still had - and still have - ideas to improve the site, and so
I spent some hours to make it a little better.

Just ordered my first Shure mic. And no, it’s not an SM57 or an SM7B, but an MV88+ to record my son’s violin concert in stereo. Let’s see how it goes … 🤞
