depths

be my invisible mirror
that opens when i write.
with words, wonder; hope, dreaming.

be my literary pillow;
bear the brunt of the i (eyes)
the questions, of self.

be the messy middle of my mind
on paper, that speaks of life.
blank, until it is not.

Inspired by Tim Kiely's prompt.

Morning

Warm tea, wiki edits, and zines sent by a friend that arrived earlier this week welcome me to the morning. Yesterday there was a rain shower more intense than any I have seen for a while; a powerful wind blew through the air. Now, the day is calm: the sky is cloudy and a lig...

Do ants eat feathers? I mean, protein, right? This crow feather was whole when I noted it by the entrance to an ants' nest on Monday. Today it seems half eaten, although it has barely moved since Monday. Could the ants have taken it apart and down into their nest?

Museums

Earlier this week I was thinking about inspiration – what inspires me to write? Nature, friends, what I see in the world as I walk around – all these are the basis of many of my blog posts. Museums, too, inspire me, both to think and to create. When I am in a museum, I can g...

Museum + guestbooks

I was at one of the local museums last weekend, because it was the last day of their exhibit on "clouds in art", that I'd been wanting to check out since March.

Me at the museum with a camera from which a long piece of paper is hanging

At the museum, I took pictures using a kids camera that instantly prints on thermal paper. I got this because Max had one at IWC Nürnberg and I thought it was cool — he also has a cool post about a thermal printer camera project, you should check that out.

It turned off before I got through the whole exhibit because it was out of batteries, so for the other exhibit they had going on I have pics I took on the phone. In the end I had a really long spool of badly rendered monochrome representations of the art.

Evening

What if the musical memories of songs last played months ago were not held in the muscles, but in the heart – the passion coming through with every E that follows C? The occasional B, played at just the right moment, adds depth. I love the moment of getting into a song: when...

Raindrops

Raindrops cascade from the skies in straight lines, watering the ground left dry after July. Since the rain started falling again, the plant outside has been growing well. Will it blossom again this year? Can plants blossom twice in one year? I hope to see the pink petals again, but, if nothing else, I have the memories of its colours from earlier in the season.

I went for a walk earlier today, before the rain began. I admired the puddles as I walked; collections of water after a dry season. I wore a heavier coat with a hood – to be prepared – not realising how warm it still is outside. Nevertheless I walked and continued to walk, watching the world go by, revelling in the welcome watery weather.
