Walking

I stopped in awe. Looking up, I saw a tall tree whose base was yellow and top was red, with all of its leaves glistening in the golden sun that made its way through the clouds we have seen in recent days. An adjacent tree had a combination of green leaves and barren branche...

#coffeeneuring2026 No. 3 20.1km round-trip I needed some new inner tubes for the Brompton, and although local bicycle shops stock them in the right size, only the LBS seems to stock Schwalbes which, in my experience, are slower to degenerate. And nearby one can get a coffee ...

Brainstorming multi-lingual use of Artemis

I now follow three websites or feeds whose authors write in French; in at least two cases, the authors write in both French and English. When I see posts in different languages, I use Firefox’s Translate feature to read them. Firefox Translate is not perfect, but as long as ...

Am in the Mountains

Don‘t expect any fast email reply this week. Am in the mountains. ☺️

Three-photo collage of autumn landscapes. On the left, a view from inside a rocky cave opening framing a golden tree, forest, and blue sky with distant mountains. In the middle, a pink and orange sunset sky over a dark forest, a green meadow in the foreground, and a lone mountain peak in the distance. On the right, a dramatic jagged mountain range under a blue sky, with a small village nestled in the valley below surrounded by trees.

Today, in the annals of spam blog comments, on a post about whole-wheat bread:

"This product works quite well. It romantically improves my golf by a lot.”

Which brings to mind the famous Johnny Carson (IIRC) exchange about “keeping his putter straight”.

Towards wygiwym is a valuable reminder of why wysiwyg was always a trap for the unwary. Hard to believe that this still needs saying in 2026. Some of us have been railing against people who ought to know better tinkering with layout since the dawn of time, but there it is.

flow (or, thinking through) (zine)

After writing autumn (essence, of) today, I worked on another zine: flow (or, thinking through).

When writing flow (or, thinking through) I started with no particular topic in mind other than a vague interest in exploring the concept of flow. To get started, I consulted my notes, bringing in and expanding upon ideas I have written about, and then I let myself explore whatever flowed in the moment.

You can download the zine as a PDF, and follow these instructions to fold the zine. Please enjoy!

autumn (essence, of) (zine)

Today I made a new zine: autumn (essence, of).

This is my first time including imagery in a zine. The front and back covers feature two photos I have taken outdoors recently: a frosty flower and frosty leaves on a bed of grass.

You can download the zine as a PDF, and follow these instructions to fold the zine. Please enjoy!

contours

Spectra of coherence — ground, sky; all presents. // Deconstruct.
Where do I find the word that embodies a step?
— elevation, propulsion, placing; in cycles, forward, forward.
A mirror of irreducibility.
How can a word reflect my cold nose, dripping with winter air,
Breathing in fast, deeply.
Stories, of moments —
Collapsed colour, stark senses, every expression:
Poem, no contours; possible?
(But in contours definition exists.)

#coffeeneuring2026 No. 2 10.3km round-trip Beautiful autumn Sunday afternoon, bright skies, warm, but not too warm, so out for a little ride to a new park along the Tiber. The Parco Marconi used to be a total tip 20 or so years ago when I sometimes had to walk my dog down he...
