Caw 02

Having been away from home for a bit, and with nobody here to keep the crows coming by, it took a few days to reestablish our relationship. Truth be told, I'm still not that good at identifying individual birds to be able to say with any certainty that they are the same birds. Nevertheless, they're crows alright. And they like peanuts in the shell. And while some are quite timid, others are bold enough to visit when no peanuts are visible and wait until I produce some. So yes, we each have the other fairly well trained. I knew a highlight in the eye would improve the image. And of course just sitting there with the camera, other opportunities present themselves, like this collared dove entirely unsure what to make of the offering.

Midnight

The voice of the romantic midnight harkens; its calm tones echo through the day with the help of words. Is midnight romantic? I have been thinking about moments between: the transitions from one state to another. Yesterday, as I left the cafe from which I had purchased a co...

The Met

I close my eyes and see the Great Hall. This is where they host the Met Gala! I can’t help but think about that when I stand and watch as tourists congregate, ask for information, and walk around to get to the exhibits they want to see. There are at least three ways you can ...

Over the years I and others have experimented with "watch" posts, short notes that express having seen a movie or TV show, sometimes with a link, and brief review or other commentary, like earlier today:https://tantek.com/2026/214/t1/watched-spider-man-brand-new-dayI was insp...

🎦 watched “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” in the Metreon Dolby Cinema this past Friday and really enjoyed it.Took a half day off to recover from a long week & last weekend, and decided to see the new Spider-Man movie. The theater was packed except for the front row. Lots of fans wearing Spider-Man gear.If you haven’t seen the previous Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, you could watch only those three then this film and still have a great time. No significant dependence on other MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) stories in Brand New Day.Optionally, you could watch the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies before watching the third Tom Holland one, “No Way Home”, for character development and additional narratives.#SpiderMan #BrandNewDay #SpiderManBrandNewDay #Blaugust #Blaugust2026 #2026_212 #20260731

Skies; distance

My words flow from the blank, full, blue sky that rests above – a sky in which the more I look, the more texture I see; there are ripples and layers and colours; the periphery of individual clouds emerge. The more I look, the more I see. When I am in art galleries, I see so...

August

The sun shines through the silvery sky. I look up and around to see where blue might peek through the blanket that covers the sky. There is one space where I can see shades of blue through the silver. I think about how the sky invites me to look up, and then around: to be cu...

Countryside; Blaugust

With the window open and the breeze flowing through, I hear the calls and songs of birds. A calling pigeon in particular stands out. I love the calls of pigeons in the evening. The sound reminds me of childhood, looking out the window, onto Nature. A flock of birds fly by as...

🎬 Total Recall

Movie poster for “Total Recall”.

The sets, the clothes, the makeup, the props - it’s all a little goofy and overdone. And I think this fits the film perfectly. Because it’s not taking itself too seriously. It’s a great Akschn Fuim and simply entertaining from start to finish in all its 80s glory. No shit!

Lousy Hotel Avoided

Last summer, I noticed an insect bringing a bit of leaf to plug the hole in a bit of bamboo that is part of one of those folding director’s chairs. Huh? A leafcutter bee, how interesting, and thought no more about it. I particularly failed to notice when, or indeed whether, ...

Of Day

I hear the birds singing as I sit by the window and look out on the horizon. I like looking at all the colours of the sky in the moments after sunset, when ambers recede and the sky becomes ever more blue before night time. I hear the sound of my fingers typing on my keyboar...

Lattes

I watched the movie "Valentines Day" (2010) for the first time today, which stars, among others, Taylor Swift. The energy in this scene (especially the enthusiastic and excited way in which the words are said, while Taylor carries a huge bear) 1 fills me with joy:
[call out: "Save the Lattes!"]
Taylor: They're putting lattes in the vending machines? Finally!
Taylor: Robbie, I am so glad you are taking care of this.
Robbie: You got it.
Taylor: And, I like caramel lattes, just FYI.
I am not a fan of caramel lattes, but I do love this scene!

🎬 Sunshine

Movie poster for “Sunshine”.

This was fantastic. It has a great crew with its space-movie typical in-fights and betrayal, stunning imagery, gripping action; and absolutely fucking golden space suits. I wish I could watch this in a cinema at some point again.
