in change, new
beginnings – of
stories and; what
if.
the writer’s mind
making notes and reviewing quotes,
collected from day and night:
here, there are stories.
i revel in observing, and
in place-
making.
where am i? how do i feel?
what does this mean to me?
i think of the melody of words
their cadence and shape and tense
and from all, i feel:.
from words, wonder;
with words, wonder.
I just finished War and Peace, here are some thoughts
On my 22nd birthday, two years ago, I had a pretty pleasant day. I don't really remember what about it was good, I probably had an enjoyable task at work and a good time with collegues; and in my good mood, I also went down to the book shop right outside my workplace and picked up War and Peace. The cashier made a little comment as he scanned the book, apparently impressed or surprised.
Why'd I pick it up? Well, why would anyone want to read the book? Because it's a classic and everyone says it's good. Was it? Yes! But not in the sort of way I expected it to be.

This is exciting. Just uncovered my old Kodak Zi8, bought January 2010 and not used since mid 2011. Charging it up now and hoping to make use of it. I wonder if there are any mods.

“If I had done what I originally intended, I could have been building a slum tenement occupied by ruthless assassins waiting only for their next victim.”
TIL follicetum, and although I already knew about prickles, thorns and spines, I had my memory of them refreshed, thanks to the Botanists in the Kitchen.
just bought a translation of the original draft of War and Peace. it's so fucking over for me
This is important. A false positive is by no means the same as a negative, although as Kaiser Fung explains, that does require a bit of (slow) thinking.

Cryptospora cases continue to explode despite being “under control”. Things are quite a lot better in Europe, which is also being told to do more for pulses and beans.

The Royal Mile
I wrote the following while standing on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, listening to music and watching the world.
The joy of closing your eyes and being able to listen to the bagpipes. I look into the distance and see a traffic cone on the head of a statue. I notice how much busier it is than in previous weeks — how a place comes alive at different times, and in different months and seasons. The joy of standing in the busy city and watching the world move around you — people sauntering and thinking and looking and catching and eating and speaking and jumping and being, of the crowds gathering to watch and hear the piper. Of letting the wind blow through my hair while the sun shines and the music plays; standing next to raised beds of flowers // the colours of green and pink and purple and white are soothing.
Phished. Again
Don’t make me fix your broken links
I got phished, because I failed to see the warning signs and ignored the one I did notice. But I do have questions. Did the scummers actually know that I was expecting a delivery, or was I just extra-unlucky?
