Why I Like Working From Home

A friend was bemoaning the fact that he would shortly be forced to work only from home and replied thoughtfully to my challenge to blog his reasons: Why I Hate Working From Home. I have to say, most of Larry’s reasons resonated for me, because I generally love working from h...

🎬 PG: Psycho Goreman

Honestly, this was very entertaining. I was pretty tired, but this kept me awake, no problem. It's just so bizarre and funny. The daughter and her father are absolute comedy gold. And that policeman! The costumes are so good, too. I don't know, I had a great time and would most definitely watch it again.

Plot is all over the place and there's quite a few scenes that make little sense. But yeah, for a trash-movie night, certainly not the worst flick. "Wait, how did they lift those enormous logs and … ?" "WHO CARES, ACTION, AHHHH…!". The finale is like Home Alone but in the woods and pretty entertaining.

River

The verdant foliage on the steep hillside, the path that you know was made just for this place — the wooden planks delineating where to walk, the stairs up and down following the ebb and flow of the hill, the bridges that wove through the trees and over the edge of the river...

Another HWC Düsseldorf has taken place this week, where we shared what we’ve been up to with our personal sites. Nina continued to write more and more for her homepage as well as work on the code. She started adding music to her blog posts. Jochen continues to make selfhosted tools and recently added a (private) “Archive” site where he adds podcasts episodes to, and transcribes the audio into text. I recently added the latest Polaroid to my homepage.

We also talked about Kagi’s Small Web initiative, AI, how much personal information to share online, and easter eggs. Links mentioned:

I love making incremental improvements to my website. All the changes I make to this website build up to what you see. This has me thinking that websites are both a place to reflect on, discuss, and make change, as well as being something that can, and does, change over and ...

Saturday

When I woke up this morning, I knew I wanted to open the blinds early – to let the spring light in. The previous night, I had made sure the book I wanted to read was sitting by my bedside, ready for me in the morning. I enjoyed the soft yellow light shining through the room ...

I love watching the sun set, from golden hour to the moment when the last pink hues fade from the sky. Every moment is magical. As I write, there are bands of purple radiating behind the ripples of thin clouds on the horizon. I periodically look out the window when the sky ...

My BirdNET-Pi detected a tawny owl a few times over the past week, usually around 3 am. We live near a big park so I was inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt. And I was right, because this morning, in the park, I found incontrovertible evidence.

🎬 In the Mouth of Madness

Movie poster for “In the Mouth of Madness”.

Hm. Somehow, the plot was a bit unsatisfactory. But there's still lots to like: the theme song is one of my favourites by Carpenter, the gory practical effects are great, I liked the characters, the humour, the atmosphere. Good one, but (after first watch) not my most-liked Carpenter film.

Colour

Hues of red and lavender blended together in the clear evening sky. I don’t think I have seen the sky like this before. I write with my laptop propped up on one lap as I gaze out the window, trying to find the words to describe the sky. As the minutes pass, the sky changes. ...
