🥁 … Ich klicke jetzt mal auf
„Jetzt einrichten“

Glasfaser-News!

Layers

At this weekend’s Homebrew Website Club, the topic of Taylor Swift came up (I wonder who brought that up!). One person shared the layers in the song exile; how they became more perceptible with different pieces of audio equipment. The song has layers. Today I have been liste...

📄 Sending WebSub notifications

During IndieWebCamp Düsseldorf this year, I implemented sending WebSub notifications, to immediately notify potential subscribers, whenever my feeds update. Here's how I implemented this.

The first Homebrew Website Club Düsseldorf Schepp and I co-organised turned out well. We gathered at Düsseldorf’s central library inside its “Xafé” café. We had 7 participating adults and 2 children. ;)

The meetup was more exchange and discussions than actual work on one’s websites. Discussed topics included:

  • “I want to build my own website”
  • Opinions on tooling
  • RelMeAuth
  • Podcast metric aggregation
  • WebSub
  • Personal publishing workflows and tools
  • Image hosting
  • RSS feeds
  • …and probably even a few more.

Very enjoyable evening!

Making things happen

I have spent the last fifteen or so minutes exploring the newly-released Internet Phone Book. The book is a collection of hundreds of websites, as well as stories of the web. When I first saw the book online, I knew I would love it: it’s a mix of old and the new. Holding the ...

Just gave @penpot a try for a project. It is much more mature than I had expected! But there are still quite a few bugs, quirks, and inconsistencies that make working with it very cumbersome. Still a way to go until this is a serious alternative to #Figma IMO.

Matthias Ott Valid

Just to name just a few bugs: text is suddenly jumping to different positions, some gradients are flipped in the opposite direction while editing, I get sudden color changes for multiple elements although I was changing the color for just one element, and my collaborator can’t see images I added to the layout. Also, the color picker just stopped working completely in my project – whenever I want to pick a color, Penpot crashes.

And as the project has grown a little, zooming and panning is now starting to get really laggy… 😕

Hope the team fixes most of those issues quickly, because overall it definitely is an impressive open-source tool. 👏💚

DevTools features I like: Computed CSS

One of my favourite parts of working with the web is the developer tools available. With browser developer tools, we can inspect individual elements on a page. We can even move, edit, and remove elements. We can change styles, inspect the values of scripts, and more. There ar...

Honestly, the new Fujifilm X half looks really appealing. I think there should be way more playful digital cameras, too - like this one.

play; ground

I love playing with code in the browser. I often create blank HTML files to explore ideas and to learn. I like experimenting with CSS features I have never used in a new file so I can learn the fundamentals and explore. I can start from a blank slate and see how my code – and...

Building an edit button browser extension

I have been using my website editing bookmarklet for the last few months to edit several websites. I can click the Edit bookmarklet and, if the page I am viewing has a rel=edit link, link anchor text that indicates an edit link, or is a page on my website, the corresponding e...
