I have been interviewed for Hyde’s “Over/Under” series.
I really like the new FetchLater API - it doesn’t just keep a request alive after a page is gone like Beacon API does, but it also handles when to send it. Beacon leaves that to you, and no window event (beforeunload, pagehide, etc.) covers all cases - e.g. mobile minimizing suspends it. Plus, you can finally send JSON with application/json instead of text/plain. And it's easier to debug too! 🥳
Would love to see it making an appearance in Firefox and WebKit too, @jaffathecake @jensimmons ❤️
It is New Photos From Daniel-Day! He just published his photos from May 2024 and I make an appearance. That is not the reason I am posting this, btw – I just enjoy looking at his images + funny comments. Last year in December, he managed to post five new months! Will he be able to repeat that record-breaking output? Stay tuned.

Two Square Kilometers
My radius here in the city is quite limited. I have the same commute every day, passing the same locations. When I am out with the kids, we have a couple of favorite places we visit (playgrounds, parks, etc.). All in all, it is probably only two square kilometers, so it is no wonder that I start to revisit certain subjects from time to time. A41 is a perfect example of this, but in this particular case, I turned it on its head and made it a series. (The challenge is now to find different angles.) But recently, I find myself recognizing more and more places/landmarks/subjects I have photographed before. Some examples include these trees (1 and 2), the TV tower (1, 2, and 3), or the RWE tower (1, 2, 3, and 4). There’s no conclusion to this, just an observation I made.

Haven't seen this again since it came out. And I enjoyed this a lot now! That dream-within-a-dream concept is so good, and Nolan can just go crazy with the action. And it's still one of his movies you can more easily follow. Technically it's flawless IMO. And that ending is so perfect!
Good HWC yesterday. I finally removed SASS from the build-pipeline for this site - using just plain CSS now - and also updated my view-transition syntax, so that those work again now. But apart from this, it was mostly us talking about various topics from home networking and self-hosting to - as often - AI and LLMs.
The next HWC DUS is on Dec. 18th.
