The Linux Experiment

Today, for the first time in 23 years, I own a computer that is not a Mac. For a while now I had the idea to break away from – or at least become less dependent on – closed systems, in my particular case: Apple’s eco system. Don’t get me wrong: It is very cosy here. Everythi...

The 366 zines (part II and III) arrived yesterday! 🎉 Unfortunately half of them are not up to the quality that one can expect. I already contacted Blurb customer service and will hopefully get this resolved quickly. Not worried, as I had similar issues before and Blurb handled it exemplary every time. My guess is that they were (are?) quite overwhelmed with Black Friday / Christmas orders. I’ll sign and ship the good half on Saturday. 🙌

🔗 August 2023 – Daniel Pietzsch’s Photo Journal

The latest photojournal entry has been out for a few days.

Zoe's first day at school. I went photographing with Florian at Zeche Zollverein in Essen. It was my mum's birthday. Saw Gatecreeper and Converge live in Dortmund with Bernd and Fred. We went to a horse race. And Bernd and I went on a multiday hike in Austria, where I broke my arm.

It is my opinion, that not every app needs a “year in review” feature. In the example below, Asana is seriously telling me that Claudio – the only other team member! – was actually the one I most often collaborated with. Not shit, Sherlock! 🤦‍♂️

With all the possibilities of connecting online, meeting in person is still the most effective, when it comes to discussing the important stuff. Had a very productive two days with Claudio! 🙂

On my way to Frankfurt for our end-of-year Haptiq meetup. Two days of planing and strategizing for the next year (and hanging out). I haven’t seen Claudio IRL since June.

🎬 My Old Ass

One of those watches that I didn’t plan to join. But then Aubrey Plaza appeared as the hallucination old ass of the teenage protagonist’s younger self to tell her about what’s about to come, while she was in the woods with friends taking mushrooms. Unfortunately this didn’t continue as exciting. It’s pretty much a love story. Not really bad, but relatively conventional, which I found a little disappointing given that surprising beginning.

🎬 Blink Twice

Movie poster for “Blink Twice”.

I liked how this looked. And I think the story had potential. But towards the end it gets more and more bonkers and I’m less and less convinced by plot and performances. Was ok.

First hour of home schooling is not going great. SchoolFox is apparently not able to provide a stable video call: kids randomly drop out, jerky video, choppy audio. You would think that this should not be an issue, given that this is a central part of their service. 🤦‍♂️
