🎬 The Royal Hotel

This really drew me in. It gets increasingly menacing and suspenseful. I think this movie really succeeds in showing how frightening (dangerous even) and really uncomfortable it can be as a young woman (waitress) amongst a horde of men.
Acting was 👌. Hearing some Aussie accent was, too.
Anyhow, I'll now have a Dickin's Cider (sorry! 🫣).
🎬 Pearl

Liked how this looked. Loved Mia Goth's acting, in particular her long monologue and that end scene where she makes faces for a minute or two. The plot could have been a little more focused, but overall a well-rounded, well-entertaining film.

The birthdays continue. It's Easter. Another studio visit. Beyond Tellerrand conference. A poker night. And the all the stuff in between.
🎬 Split

I liked Anya Taylor-Joy's performance. And James McAvoy is good, too. But the movie as a whole did not grip me. I just didn't find it suspenseful. The main character is not menacing enough. And there's way too much going on, and as a result the plot suffers. A bit of an eye-roller.

I’m on a roll!
Three birthdays and a studio visit.
🎬 Late Night with the Devil

Such a great plot and so well executed. I assume this is a pretty low budget film, and all the more respect to make it so entertaining. Spooky, suspenseful, with great acting and some nice gory special effects.
🎬 Peeping Tom

It was late when we started this, and I didn't pay full attention the whole time. But this was still a fantastic surprise. A great story with a really creepy dude and a lot of suspense. Never seen it in a movie old movie like this. But it did remind me of Psycho. Generally this was pretty Hitchcock-like. And Hitchcock I like. And so do I like this one. Recommended!
🎬 Four Flies on Grey Velvet

*sigh* Argento! He has really good ideas and can certainly film those, too. But the crazy outrageous story and unbelievable dialogue still annoys me.

🎬 Maybe... Maybe Not

Haha. ;-)
🎬 Caché

Been putting off writing about this one. I guess this could be somewhat watched as a straight crime/voyeur story. But it’s much more subtle than this. It’s also a lot about the relationships and reactions of its characters. And it certainly has its surprising twists – I totally overlooked the detail in the final scene, even though I was looking for something like this. Anyhow, it‘s a good movie and probably better on a second watch. But I‘m not sure if I will.

🎬 Alien

It‘s been a while; and I mostly seem to remember scenes from Aliens (Part 2 of the frnachise). But this was a great rewatch. I thought this aged extremely well. The menacing atmosphere, the sets, the sounds, the story. A classic for a reason!
🎬 Dune

It's a very beautiful film about stuff I didn't care about. I should have watched this in a cinema.
ES2022, Modules, ImportMaps and Content Security Policy
I really like that the days of AMD and CommonJS are over. Native modules can be used in the browser. Have a class and export it: class Library{ static sayHello(){ alert('Hello'); } } export default Library; Import it elsewhere: import Library from './lib.js' Library.sayHello(); Reference only the entry point file: <script type="module" src="./js/script.js" async></script> That’s it. Nice. With HTTP2 loading more than a combined and minified script is not such an issue any more when used with compression.
🎥 Forkalyst - Gemstone (live)
On saturday, our band Forkalyst played its first live gig. It was a sold out show at a popular brewery pub here in Düsseldorf. Lots of our friends came around. It was great fun. And I placed my GoPro on the stage railing next to me to record some of it.
🎬 Anatomy of a Fall

This movie is 2.5 hours long, but it easily managed to keep me engaged. I found this to be brilliantly told. You're constantly wondering what might have happened. And whether you can trust the suspect and her view of the story. The dialogues felt very authentic and all was brilliantly played by everyone involved, but I found especially Sandra Hüller's and Milo Machado-Graner's (who plays her son) performances remarkable. Extra points for authentic piano playing.
🎬 The Terminator

Woah, haven't watched this in a looong time. But this rewatch was totally worth it. Not much too complain about when it comes to action movies. The atmosphere, the action, that relentlessness, the music, the special effects (which hold up really well, I must say). I'll be back!
