🎬 Alien

Movie poster for “Alien”.

It‘s been a while; and I mostly seem to remember scenes from Aliens (Part 2 of the frnachise). But this was a great rewatch. I thought this aged extremely well. The menacing atmosphere, the sets, the sounds, the story. A classic for a reason!

It's a very beautiful film about stuff I didn't care about. I should have watched this in a cinema.

ES2022, Modules, ImportMaps and Content Security Policy

I really like that the days of AMD and CommonJS are over. Native modules can be used in the browser. Have a class and export it: class Library{ static sayHello(){ alert('Hello'); } } export default Library; Import it elsewhere: import Library from './lib.js' Library.sayHello(); Reference only the entry point file: <script type="module" src="./js/script.js" async></script> That’s it. Nice. With HTTP2 loading more than a combined and minified script is not such an issue any more when used with compression.

🎥 Forkalyst - Gemstone (live)

Forkalyst - Gemstone (live)

On saturday, our band Forkalyst played its first live gig. It was a sold out show at a popular brewery pub here in Düsseldorf. Lots of our friends came around. It was great fun. And I placed my GoPro on the stage railing next to me to record some of it.

🎬 Anatomy of a Fall

Movie poster for “Anatomy of a Fall”.

This movie is 2.5 hours long, but it easily managed to keep me engaged. I found this to be brilliantly told. You're constantly wondering what might have happened. And whether you can trust the suspect and her view of the story. The dialogues felt very authentic and all was brilliantly played by everyone involved, but I found especially Sandra Hüller's and Milo Machado-Graner's (who plays her son) performances remarkable. Extra points for authentic piano playing.

🎬 The Terminator

Movie poster for “The Terminator”.

Woah, haven't watched this in a looong time. But this rewatch was totally worth it. Not much too complain about when it comes to action movies. The atmosphere, the action, that relentlessness, the music, the special effects (which hold up really well, I must say). I'll be back!

🎬 Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann

Movie poster for “Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann”.

Ok, I must say, this was a great movie to pair with The Terminator – which was the second movie that evening. Thematically very fitting, but not nearly as good. It certainly had some good ideas and scenes, but overall, I found this pretty slow-paced and too uneventful.

🎬 Blow Out

Movie poster for “Blow Out”.

I very much enjoyed this crime story. Super well told with a great cast. I enjoyed both John Travolta's and Nancy Allen's acting as well as their characters. I like how technical this was in parts. It has great humour (the scene with the auditioning scream-dubbers: pure gold). And is suspenseful. Maybe the ending was a bit too over the top, but otherwise: thumbs up!

🎬 Poor Things

Movie poster for “Poor Things”.

This is easily one of the most entertaining movies ever. A curious and naive (in a good and very funny way) female Frankenstein‘s „monster” goes on an exploration trip – in a mostly sexual sense – driving all the men crazy along the way. Lots of very funny absurdity. Fantastic cast – especially Emma Stone of course – great sets and costumes, great dialogue and on and on. Want to watch again please.

🎬 Alps

Movie poster for “Alps”.

Of course, this was pretty absurd. A lot of scenes were just hilarious. But it also contained some serious issues like abusive relationships. And isn‘t a service to imitate the dead just a „normal“ job like everything else? Hm…

Anyhow: good movie. And I also vers much enjoyed the greek original: quite a pleasant language.

European Court of Human Rights prohibits weakening of secure end-to-end encryption

On the 13th this month the European Court of Human Rights bans general weakening of secure end-to-end encryption with its verdict. Lastly, as regards the requirement to submit to the security services information necessary to decrypt electronic communications if they are encrypted, the Court observes that international bodies have argued that encryption provides strong technical safeguards against unlawful access to the content of communications and has therefore been widely used as a means of protecting the right to respect for private life and for the privacy of correspondence online.

🎬 Aces Go Places IV: You Never Die Twice

Movie poster for “Aces Go Places IV: You Never Die Twice”.

Another Mondo Bizarr feature. And this was just 100% fun. It has a lot of Jackie Chan trademarks: great action, quirky humour, likeable characters and a whole lot of breakneck stunts (OMG they had a little boy dangling on the outside of a skyscraper). Very much recommended, if you’re into that sort of film.

🎬 Midnite Spares

Movie poster for “Midnite Spares”.

It’s always fun watching a movie with the Mondo Bizarr audience. And this was no exception. But boy, this was a bit rough: while the story is simple enough, it’s still hard to follow, it has less action than expected, and it gets sidetracked by too many characters and unnecessary scenes. So, not exactly my thing.
