BTW, I have been writing on Twitter the way I used to write on my blog. Paragraph after paragraph, and I go on, but I do eventually re-read it and it has the energy I haven't had in a long time. I think people now realize we are stuck. And in networking systems, I'm the guy you go to when you want to get unstuck. Reminds me of that great speech in Michael Clayton: "I'm not the guy you kill. I'm the guy you buy! Are you so fucking blind that you don't even see what I am? I'm the easiest part of your problem, and you're gonna kill me? You're so fucked."

Ex-Meta Researcher Torrented Pirated Books Dataset, Deleted It ‘Due to All This Litigation’

A former Meta researcher has testified that he downloaded an AI training dataset via BitTorrent, including the pirated Books3 collection. According to various rightsholders, this happened while he worked at the company, and he later deleted his copy "[d]ue to all this litigation." Meta, which admitted training AI models on Books3 but said it didn’t believe it torrented the dataset, disputes the researcher’s account.

Scientists believe the discovery could pave the way for earlier intervention and future treatments designed to prevent Alzheimer’s before memory problems begin.

75,000-year-old Neanderthal may have been killed by a spear aimed at the heart

A Neanderthal who died 75,000 years ago may have been killed by a wooden spear deliberately aimed at the heart, revealing rare evidence of prehistoric violence. A circular hole in the shoulder blade suggests the weapon pierced the chest and caused a rapidly fatal injury. Surprisingly, the same individual had survived an earlier devastating facial injury, suggesting other Neanderthals provided care and support.
