I like her, perhaps that’s another good thing in the US landscape : Journalists saying fuck you to billionaires owned media platforms and building resistance and free thinking outside of the limited, bowed, humiliated media conglomerates that are licking Trump’s booth.

And the media are not alone, there are universities, law firms, corporations, tech moguls, ALL bowing to the King.

So the best thing that can happen is good people saying fuck you and taking a hike to build resistance on the side.

There isn’t just one way to resist. In fact, the best resistance against a corrupt regime is a multitude of forms of resistance.

At least some USians are not totally lost. And that’s good.

I don’t know how USians aren’t more bothered — even humiliated — by watching Canadians resist Trump more coherently than the United States itself. And I don’t mean that Americans aren’t resisting. They are. People protest, states sue the federal government, judges block ille...

Speaking of taking spiders outside, I went out to my car to grab something last night and noticed a jumping spider crawling on my arm. I frantically (thought I) shook it off, then went back inside. 15 minutes later he comes rappelling down from my hair and onto the floor. I took him back outside.

NASA-backed scientists turn plastic waste into edible cookies

Scientists have engineered yeast to turn PET plastic and agricultural waste into ingredients for protein-rich, 3D-printed cookies called µBites. Developed partly for NASA’s Deep Space Food Challenge, the system can produce proteins, fats, vitamins, and even vanilla flavoring from waste materials.

My first instinct was to make a joke about eating more microplastics, but it reminds me of those NileRed YouTube videos where he turns random stuff into food.

The Succession Crisis That Tore England Apart

King is dead. Long live the king. “Both Stephen and Matilda had children, and this was another important factor in the struggle for the crown. Had either of them been childless it would have weakened their position considerably, because even if they were victorious now they would have no clear successor, and the current situation… Read More »The Succession Crisis That Tore England Apart

Software Drives People Insane

Yes it does. “Software combines speed, money, complexity, abstraction, and almost unlimited freedom to change your mind. On their own, those things are perfectly manageable, but put them together and you start to get some really bizarre side-effects.” https://graybeard.ing/software-drives-people-insane

On a good day working with Claude is like working with my old UW-Madison programmer friend Gary Sevitsky from the 70s.

I've been writing about Atlantis on various social media sites in the last few days. Published the long piece I wrote yesterday on Facebook and X, both of which allow long posts. Wasn't going to try that on Mastodon or Bluesky, which have character limits (I know Mastodon doesn't technically have a limit, but in practice it does). And I am reaching old school Frontier enthusiasts, and realize I need a feed they can follow to stay up on the news. For now the one place to follow is rss.xml on scripting.com. If your reader can't deal with http, let me know.

Claude has started asking me how Claude is doing. It's clear that the Claude I talk to knows nothing about this. I appreciate this, and hope if I said it wasn't working well with me, it would try to fix it? Not sure. Anyway this is what I just wrote, and felt it was worth blogging. "it's working with me the way i want to, and it appears to be learning and getting better at it, though i think that could be my imagination. also just as likely that i'm learning how to work the way it likes to work."

Greenside morning. Sunshine brought out butterflies. Mostly Painted Ladies, a lot of Speckled Woods. One very battered Small Tortoiseshell. By the reservoir a flock of about 50 mixed goldfinch & linnets feeding among the seeded rose-bay willow herb and meadowsweet. Quite a few common darters.

With Claude Code you don't have to write system scripts to get data about your data. Claude makes that fully transparent. For example, I just asked Claude to get me a list of all the parts I've changed since the last release of frontier.root. If Claude writes a script to get that info, it's invisible to me. All I know is it takes about a minute for me to get the list.

Far too late for this, we’re still paying the price of the US descent into folly, followed by its closest allies getting a blank check to reconfigure their part of the world. The US never did an introspection after Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq or whatever disruption it caused in the name of “security & oil” and so there will be no introspection in relation to Iran or Israel, just the same descent to hell supported by ignorance and idio-klepto-kakistocracy.
