I followed the trail of pebbles, though I had found it in the middle and I didn't know which way it led. To a home or a frontier; to a safe place or a dangerous one. It didn't much matter: the home would not be mine

Charlie: He said “Now what sort of husband was he”? “Oh”, she said “one of the best. You couldn’t wish for a better one”. She said, “We used to lie in bed, Sunday mornings, and hear the church bells ringing. We used to go up with the ding and come down with the dong”. And she’d say “if it hadn’t been for that fire engine going by, at the bloody time, he’d be alive now”.

Liquid Glass GNOME Shell extension uses real refraction shaders

Apple’s Liquid Glass is more than just a blur: it’s a dynamic, translucent interface material that bends light, reflects surroundings and lets interface elements adapt to content and motion through fluid, physics-inspired animations. This extension replicates the aesthetic and its underlying physics…

POSSE (Publish on your Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere) is a cool idea that works for a lot of indie bloggers… just not me. Occasional cross-posting, sure. But not all the time. A lot of people are so comfortable in their skin that they can be the same person no matter where t...

Why you shouldn’t put a house spider outside

According to Study Finds, most indoor spiders — the common house spider among them — evolved for life indoors: stable temperatures, low airflow, and a steady trickle of small insects. Release one outdoors, and it’s likely to die.

Wolf spiders can get right the fuck back outside, but I do tend to leave the frail little guys alone. My favorites are always the pretty yellow orb weavers who hang out right outside the door and keep the bigger bugs away though, like this one.

2017: The thing people don't realize about storm surge, and they don't really explain it on TV, is this. If the ocean surges 1 mile inland, and you were on the beach before the surge, now you're 1 mile out to sea. In normal times you'd be pretty fucked if someone dropped you in the ocean a mile from shore. But you're in a hurricane. Huge waves. There's no one to rescue you. And (this is the part that will kill you) there are deadly objects in the water like buildings and trees and power lines, even a rope can entangle you and make it impossible for you to swim. And if you can't swim and you're a mile from shore, that's the end of you

Putting the finishing touches on the new @hypertexting.com TestFlight release this morning. I’m excited to ship this!
