EVs outsell petrol in Australia for the first time, led by China

Electric cars outsold petrol cars in Australia for the first time in August. Battery-electric vehicles hit 27,078 sales, or 24.9% of the new-car market, ahead of both petrol (25,824) and diesel (23,608).
The Tesla Model Y topped every model on sale. But look past it, and Australia’s EV record is almost entirely a Chinese one.

Tarrant Co, Texas Just Voted To Close 92 Polling Stations For Midterms

Once again, Republicans are trying to win elections not by making constituents’ lives better but by rigging elections to stay in power. In this case, Texas’ Tarrant County commissioners voted to close 92 voting locations. That’s a roughly 30% reduction since the 2022 midterms.
It's easy to see why. “Historically a Republican stronghold, Tarrant County has emerged as a key battleground as voters narrowly supported Democratic candidates at the top of the statewide ballot in recent elections,” The Texas Tribune reported.
It also happens to be a crucial county for Democrats to win. Reporter Abby Livingston told MS Now Tuesday night, “It’s impossible for a Democrat to win Texas without winning Tarrant County.”

Donald Trump’s Venezuela Deal Is Bold but Dodgy
The Economist: “Any future, freely elected government of Venezuela might question a deal which gives America so much control of the country’s oil. That fact will make investors hesitate. Oil majors remain wary, though Chevron, which was already in Venezuela, has just announced a separate $7bn investment.” “Worse, cash and tax revenue from the deal […]

California scored a win for clean air today, as a DC court blocked a republican attempt to end the state’s clean air standards. It’s not the first time California has prevailed in a similar case, against similar illegal attacks meant to impose more pollution.
