As Lauren Theisen pointed out last month, the ongoing, abstracted debate about trans inclusion in sports uses almost no proper nouns and lots of hypotheticals. Back in the late 1970s, there was a very real, very human example of a trans athlete playing at the highest level of a mainstream sport. Renée Richards competed in professional tennis, and her fascinating life is explored meticulously in Julie Kliegman's new biography, Finding Renée Richards. I remember my Mom drinking iced coffee in the 1970s, but it’s only in the past couple of years I’ve noticed that iced coffee seems to have become the default in hot weather, even when you’re ordering at an airport or some other large, enclosed air conditioned space. I think iced coffee is as popular as hot coffee now.

I’ve always personally preferred hot coffee, even in hot weather.
