 Globe

Mrs Geiger had a globe on her desk that we weren't allowed to touch. Since she didn't teach geography, she never touched it, either. But when she changed our seats around and I moved closer to the front, I saw that all the countries on it

Phil Schiller retires from management duties. Will Apple’s App Store start becoming more developer-friendly? Will it be more open? It is a long shot, but a possibility, IMHO.

“Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.” According to Wikipedia, it’s an adage that goes back to 1512 in Germany. People have known for hundreds of years that you should be careful not to throw out a good and vital thing in your zeal to get rid of a minor annoyance. I ...

One performance, one page: designing my mentor training as a real instructional design artifact

A year of mentor coaching PD lived in Canvas pages where nobody outside the program could see the design. No Rise license, so I couldn't build a course. I designed one instead. The deliverable is a one-page design doc (audience, objectives, alignment, assessment) and a build-ready spec, and the alignment table exposed what my own knowledge checks never verified.

The Return of the Optimist Everyone could use a little optimism these days. This isn't anything crazy, but I thought it was cute and maybe even a little inspirational. Bob Wertz blogs about switching the fish logo on his blog from an anxious expression to one with an optimis...

Fatpages. I'm working on a code release that's on the path to Frontier. It reads and writes fatpage files, a format we invented for releasing new and updated parts for Frontier in 1997. So this is very old but perfectly useful technology that's being built in a new release of Frontier, the first in 1.5 decades, depending on how you count years and forks.

How Archivore Turns Browsing Into a Wiki

This one’s ai-slop, as advertised on the about page — built with Claude Code over a couple of months of on-and-off sessions.

Most people who read a lot online never see any of it again. Someone opens an article, skims it, closes the tab, and forgets it — buried inside browser history nobody searches. Archivore, a small command-line tool, exists to fix that one habit at a time.

The idea is simple: capture everything worth keeping, automatically. Archivore scans browser history since its last run, picks out links from Hacker News, Reddit, and X, downloads the linked article, and converts it to Markdown. Nothing requires manual saving or tagging. Opening a link in a browser is enough.

I've been watching The Pitt, but it can be a bit much, so I went looking for something a bit lighter, and found 9 to 5 on Amazon Prime. Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton are the stars, and Dolly's famous song with the same name is the theme. It's a perfect slice of the world I grew up in. I get it confused with Working Girl which came out eight years later, with a similar theme -- what if women ran the business world, how much better would that be? Working Girl also had a really good theme song, written and performed by Carly Simon.
