Live TV Captures Illegal Order Barked At Camera Operator, Meant To Shield Fragile Trump

Apparently, someone really didn't want the President to be filmed during the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, and Fox 5 managed to capture the entire bizarre confrontation in their live coverage of the event. Over the weekend, President Trump and First Lady Melania attended the Ind...

Frontier update

Frontier work going much better today we’ve got all the built in verbs in the product reviewed tested and I’m not finding any problems as I create software for deploying this stuff.

The first thing we had to get working was being able to move objects from the 2011 frontier to the 2026 frontier and we got there today. The next thing that’s coming is being able to do updates for users with new parts and changes to existing ODB elements.

So once that’s working, we can start fixing bugs and looking for problems and things didn’t get ported correctly. We have a new gate. Every change must be vetted by reviewing the 2011 code, and doing exactly what we did then.

bitcam-app.com/

10 years ago I wrote about BitCam 1.0: Gorgeous, unbelievably faithful one-bit camera app for iPhone done in the style of the original Mac. A lovely tribute to Bill Atkinson’s remarkable dithering algorithm. “Catnip for old-school Mac users,” says John Siracusa. Check ou...

A Polling Dashboard

We’re about to enter the season when polls seem to arrive by the hour. So I’ve partnered with FiftyPlusOne to use their data to create a new, quick read Polling Dashboard. It tracks three things that will matter enormously heading into the midterm elections: President Trump’s approval rating, the generic congressional ballot and eight of […]

Alexander Chee Trusted His Gut

Alexander Chee Trusted His Gut
Traditional publishing is a frustrating industry whose workers are under-resourced and often mandated to chase metrics like authors' audience size and nascent trends based on "data," "vibes," and "TikTok." If, in the years-long dark period when I had an agent but not yet a ...

Red Uniforms, Ranked

Red Uniforms, Ranked
Some of my favorite sports uniforms are red. This has always been true, and my choices of teams to support have only reinforced that. (A chicken-egg situation?) Other than the Miami Marlins (who did have the snazzy Sugar Kings red jerseys a few years back), the Miami Heat, N...

Trump is playing the tariff game again, so his family can buy up some more stocks. Give it a couple of days and we’ll probably have a “historic” new deal with Canada that’s basically the same as, or worse than, what we already had.

Two Years of the Dumbest Foreign Policy Imaginable

Dan Drezner: “As the war in Iran continues to not be won, however, the cracks in the foundations of American power are showing. Whether it’s guns or butter, the America is coming up short.” “The U.S. has badly depleted its stockpile of missile interceptors, eliminating the ability to deter Russia and China.
