North Korea Shrugs Off Trump’s Scaled-Back Drills

“North Korea says a U.S. decision to scale back military exercises with South Korea doesn’t change anything,” the Associated Press reports. “The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made the comments Wednesday night in her country’s first reaction to President Donald Trump’s moves to drastically cut back the annual U.S.-South Korean military […]

Seems like we might be settling in for a 5% Apple tax across the board, globally, based on the US court and EU compromise. I don’t love it. Linking to external payments should give Apple 0% and nothing more.

Related, I saw this scare sheet yesterday while managing my account in Disney+.

A warning message from the App Store informs users that they are about to leave the app to visit an external website operated by Disney and that transactions made there will not involve Apple.

Democrats Are Failing the Waymo Test

Roge Karma: “The driverless future is here—but, to borrow from William Gibson, it’s not evenly distributed. Waymo’s self-driving robotaxis are available in cities in California, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas. Aside from California, where the technology originated, those are all red or purple states. In every other blue state, meanwhile, driverless taxis are still […]

The New Women’s Pro Baseball League Offers Hope—And Frustrations

The New Women’s Pro Baseball League Offers Hope—And Frustrations

For most women who play baseball in the United States, playing America's pastime in a professional league has been little more than a dream. Yet for a select group of women, that dream is becoming a reality.

The Women's Pro Baseball League began its inaugural season on Aug. 1, with the four-team league playing all of its games in Springfield, Ill., where dozens of the 120 women who were selected in the league's draft play pro ball. It is the most anticipated women's pro baseball league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League disbanded in 1954.

But for many players who were selected in the draft, which took place in November, the dream of getting paid to play baseball in the United States remains deferred.

Alan Dershowitz Won’t Forget What Larry David Did to Him

Mark Liebovich: “Here it is, August on Martha’s Vineyard, and Alan Dershowitz has barely been heard from.” “Well, that’s not exactly true. Bill Clinton Turns 80 Today

John Harris: “It is an argument without end in part because the positive and negative elements of Clinton’s character, the light and the shadows, seemingly flow from the same source: an intense need to win, to matter, to seduce, to prove himself in the world…” “He’s been out of political office for more than a […]
