Giving Misfits Market A Try

In recent weeks (probably months, if we’re being honest), I have felt stuck in a rut when it came to groceries. I had no ideas, and frankly no motivation, to get anything other than the basic essentials like milk, bread, and maybe eggs if I wanted to bake something. My groceries were uninspired, and I was […]

“U.S. Army troops faced off against Ukrainian drone operators at a military exercise in Germany earlier this year. It didn’t go well for the Americans,” the Wall Street Journal reports. “During the exercise, called Combined Resolve, Ukrainian drone units easily spotted and defeated U.S. troops and armored vehicles on rotation from Fort Hood in Texas.”

Quote of the Day

“It’s no secret when I ran for the legislature in 2000, I was a Republican. And I had no idea. All I cared about was getting into the legislature because that seemed to be the place that I could fix some of the problems that were happening in my area. I would’ve ran as anything, […]

Death Cab for Cutie’s Tiny Desk Concert

Death Cab for Cutie rolled into the NPR offices for a Tiny Desk Concert, which featured two new songs from their current album and some oldies: Title and Registration and Soul Meets Body. Gibbard noted:

I’m starting to realize that some of our earlier records came out a similar distance away from, like, the Beatles records when I was a kid.

This is Death Cab’s second Tiny Desk…here’s the first one from 2015:

I took this as an opportunity to listen to my favorite Death Cab song, Transatlanticism. And when are we getting a Postal Sevice Tiny Desk? Come on, we’ve been good! We need this!

Trans Rights And Lesbian Lefts, With Maya Goldberg-Safir

Trans Rights And Lesbian Lefts, With Maya Goldberg-Safir

This week on Nothing But Respect, we welcomed back Maya Goldberg-Safir, one of my favorite WNBA writers and thinkers. Maya runs Rough Notes and has written a handful of amazing Defector stories, and I consider her to be the best person covering the history of women's basketball.

On this episode, we talked about Maya's time at WNBA All-Star weekend in Chicago (which she wrote about for Bustle), the Sophie Cunningham situation, and the critical importance of understanding the past few decades of women's basketball history as a way into the controversies of today. We also did some trademark NBR meta-discourse and planned the Golden State Valkyries' championship parade.

Also! Next week, we are doing a special Broke Jumper Tip Line episode, so please send in any stories you have about anyone notable interacting with basketball in any way! (347) 380-6426!
