New reporting reveals discontent among current ICE officers, including concerns of "pressure" from leadership "to get [new recruits] guns and badges quick.” David Brouillette, the ICE officer who killed a Maine man last week, was a new recruit who joined the agency earlier this year.

After ‘losing her soul to Hollywood,’ Ayelet Waldman just published her first novel in a decade

Her 12th novel, “A Perfect Hand,” has a Victorian marriage plot — with a twist. Other new Berkeley books include poems written on the Tamalpais fence in Codornices Park and a look at the influence of UC Berkeley faculty’s brown-shingle summer homes on Inverness’ architectural history.

Search traffic has declined so much that some publishers are considering opting out of Google entirely
