This is why I think there are multiple webs, not just one. Allegedly "open" by default ("the open web" is a redundancy like how "PIN number" and "ATM machine" are), there's the "behind a paywall web" and the "filled with ads and redirects web" and the "blocked because you don't live in the right region web" or the "blocked because your intense web use flagged you as an automated agent web", and so on. There's also the cozy web (where one only talks about how cozy their web is). This is why I want to leave the web: Every time I get it to a "Goldilocks"/just right web, something knocks it out of whack.

I have a long-running support case with the support team WhoSampled, recently purchased by Spotify, about being blocked after visiting the site once. It's necessary to have a firewall these days, but because of the aggressiveness of automated visitors, website owners have to be overly protective. My work IP is banned from Wikipedia because it's behind a "VPN". (Technically, yeah. But the "Get a VPN" advice is now no longer a guaranteed way to see content on the web.) I wish I could prove my humanity if not once and for all, but for the next, say, 5 years, and then renew my validation. I want 5 years of not having to prove I'm a human being. Make me have to show up to a post office if it comes to it. Assuming those are still around in 5 years.

Working on an author screen in Epilogue. Our database of books is pretty cluttered, as you can see in this video, but overall I think this UI is going to work. I’ll ship it soon.

How should WordPress and rss.chat interact?

I've been thinking about this too, tried to leave a long comment here but that didn't take. I ended up leaving a reply on the GitHub issue you started:

Maine Senate Race Is Still a Toss Up

Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball: “Democrats should ultimately end up with a less damaged candidate against Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) than Graham Platner was, although that is a low bar.” “We are keeping the Maine Senate race at Toss-up.” “But we are making some other moves in Maine: We are upgrading Democrats’ chances in the open-seat […]

New rss.chat feature: It now supports feed discovery, so you can subscribe to any html page on the site in a compatible feed reader. I tested it in FeedLand and NetNewsWire and it works. Works on any instance, not just ours.

What’s The Worst Movie You’ve Ever Watched In A Theater?

What’s The Worst Movie You’ve Ever Watched In A Theater?

Here's how we got on this. Billy was in soccer chat speculating on how soccer might have turned out differently if Lionel Messi had "accidentally" drowned baby Lamine Yamal in that bathtub. He then posted the poster for 2004's The Butterfly Effect to illustrate the concept of the butterfly effect. Luis piped up to say that The Butterfly Effect may have been the worst movie he's even seen in a theater. Now we're all sharing our worsts.

The only movie I've ever walked out of was Kazaam. If I remember correctly, I told my mom I had to go pee and then after that we simply decided not to go back inside. I think even at that age I clocked it as irredeemable. The angriest I've ever been at a movie while sitting in a theater was Rise of Skywalker. I left with plumes of steam coming out of my ears.

The World Cup Is About Great Players And Nothing Else
Like every previous edition, this World Cup has been great at producing stories. The most uplifting was the one about the shrinking gap between soccer's established powers and the rest of the world, as told by the group-stage success of the African teams, and most memorably ...
