Uncovering abuse inside America's largest ICE detention center

‘New Yorker’ staff writer Jonathan Blitzer says thousands of people are being held in tents in the El Paso, Texas, desert, where inhumane conditions have become a tool to pressure people to accept deportation. There have been 52 deaths in detention centers since President Trump took office, and a significant number of them are suicides. Blitzer spoke with co-host Tonya Mosley.

rss.chat is meant to be like MacWrite was on early Macs, give developers something to think about and lots of prior art for them to steal. All we want in return is interop. ;-)

Mixed feedback on my post about X, mostly good. I’m going to hold the rollout another week so I can consider everything. No deployments yet.

Also there’s some confusion about whether all paid Micro.blog subscriptions send money to X. Nope, this would be a change only for users who want to use X.

Show Brain Sunday (part 1) with Diary, Tea Eater

Photos by Stacie Joy We arrived at Sunday's free Show Brain show in Tompkins Square Park just as Tea Eater had audience members ducking under an oversized inflatable stick of butter during a limbo contest inspired by "Butter," a track from the art-punk band's LP, I Don't Believe in Bad Luck.  We knew it was going to be a memorable afternoon. Next up, NYC's Diary, which just released an infectious new single, "Keep Comin' Up," that we happily heard on the Morning Show with John Richards on KEXP several times last week.  The band's first LP, Spiral Bound, is out in September. Show Brains veterans Pons were next, and they never disappoint... Then came the headliners — The First President of Japan, who provided 30 minutes of unbridled joy... To be continued ...

The headlines should have been: ‘Trump makes crackpot Iran announcement’

Even before Trump reversed himself, there was no chance his 20% toll on traffic through the Strait of Hormuz would ever take effect, and reporters knew it.
