Could Data Centers Actually Be Good For Your Town?

Data centers have become the thing Americans on both sides of the aisle love to hate. But Eric Levitz, senior correspondent at Vox, argues that some of the environmental affects are overstated, and that in some areas they may be a net positive for the community.  Photo:...

Factoring RSA Keys with Many Zeros

Interesting research on a new class of weak RSA keys: keys with lots of zeros. It turns out that these keys are out in the wild.

The badkeys project is an open-source service that checks public keys for known vulnerabilities. While developing this tool, Hanno collected a massive number of real-world keys from public sources, including Certificate Transparency logs, internet-wide TLS and SSH scans, PGP keys, and many others. By searching this dataset for unexpectedly sparse RSA moduli, we uncovered a large number of keys in the wild with the patterns in Figure 1...

I've never given a commencement speech, but if I did, I'd run through my mottos and explain what they mean and who I stole them from, and how they are a distillation of what I've learned in life. The one I'd mention first, which isn't even on the freaking list, is this one --...

Well... would you look at that.

After all those made-up lies about mail-in ballots, the Supreme Court just rejected this administration's latest attempt to silence voters.

Y'all need to stop trying to suppress votes and start trying to earn them.

Remembering Om Malik

It seems almost quaint now, but there was once a version of the Internet ruled by influencers that were honest, high integrity folks who genuinely cared about the impact of their words. Perhaps the most thoughtful of these was Om Malik, who passed away last week at the age of 59. Om was a colleague … Continue reading "Remembering Om Malik"

I’m a broken record on the futility of TestFlight beta approvals, but I was reminded of it again when I considered doing a new beta for Epilogue over the weekend. If it requires Apple approval, now I have another thing to manage, in addition to all these apps. Might as well just ship to everyone.

We’ve Got A Whole Jaylen Brown Situation On Our Hands
The NBA offseason presents a pit that must be filled with trade rumors, free-agency drama, and delirium-inducing podcast segments. It takes a lot of slop to fill that pit to the brim, which is how you end up with Jaylen Brown and an ESPN dope conspiring to dust off a tiresom...
