To maintain Apple’s privacy pledge, the Gemini-based AI will run directly on Apple devices or its private cloud system, which is powered by Apple’s own server chips, rather than running on Google’s servers. Google put significant engineering effort into getting a version of Gemini working on Apple’s servers, according to a person familiar with the partnership talks.

No small thing for Apple to scale this up on their own. We’ll see small improvements in iOS 26.4, with the biggest changes in the fall.

I have to admit, the performance of a Chromium-based browser compared to Firefox is abysmal. I don't have that many tabs but it lags a lot and the browser constantly puts tabs in hibernation to save memory--something I've never needed with Firefox. So all of you Chrome users live like this? No wonder RAM is in high demand.

In NYC last week, I walked by the Meta Lab store. There was a 30-minute wait to try Ray-Ban Display glasses. I don’t want to actually buy them, so I didn’t waste everyone’s time by taking up a slot. The store had real people in it, though. (Not Apple Store level crowdedness, of course.)

Giannis Antetokounmpo is having a bad time. Tuesday night he opened the second half of a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a baseline spin into a tough contested layup over Julius Randle, and finished the play on the ground. Antetokounmpo, seated beneath the basket, formed up the double-thumbs-down gesture, raised it up over his head, and booed loudly. He was not booing the referees, who'd whistled Randle for a foul on the play; he was booing the fans. After Giannis was helped to his feet, he continued to boo his team's fans. He felt it was only fair: Those same Milwaukee unfaithful, after all, had booed the Bucks only minutes earlier.

"Whenever I get booed, I boo back," Antetokounmpo explained after the game. "It won't change home or away."
