I drive a Tesla Model Y, the best car I've ever owned. I wish Elon Musk wasn't associated with it. If there were a good alternative to the Tesla, I would divest in a minute. I could afford to do it and would welcome the opportunity.

MAGA Dimwit Tommy Tuberville Blurts Out Awkward Truth About Trump, GOP

Points for candor to Senator Tommy Tuberville. On Thursday, he admitted he thinks Trump should vet his own nominees, suggesting the Senate GOP should forget about playing its advice and consent role. That’s a stark admission about what MAGA actually expects from Senate Republicans. Yet revelations about Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, are so damning that Republicans are finding him impossible to rubber-stamp, and he’s hanging in the balance. We chatted with Salon’s Amanda Marcotte, author of a new piece about Trump, Hegseth and the GOP. She explains how Tuberville said the quiet part out loud, how Trump is expressly trying to build a cabinet of misogynists, and how that’s backfiring, perhaps forcing Republicans to thwart his worst excesses.

Don't give him any ideas

"I hope this doesn't give Trump any ideas" is what I thought when I heard that the president of South Korea had out of the blue declared martial law. You probably thought it too.

I decided it was time to tell the story of how we elected Trump even though we had a 4-year demo, including COVID and an attempted overthrow of the US government.

We knew who he was, and we said give us more of that.

We are out of our minds.

Includes a transcript.

PS: Recorded on Tuesday, published on Thursday.

PPS: It turns out the president of South Korea was actually trying to give Trump an idea.

PPPS: The people of South Korea told the president to go to hell.

NetNewsWire 6.1.6 for Mac

NetNewsWire 6.1.6 for Mac is out — do a check for updates or download it directly.

The theme of this release is using less bandwidth (and, as a consequence, less battery). It fixes a conditional GET issue and it now pays attention to Cache-Control response headers and 429 response codes.

There are also a few other small bug fixes:

  • Restore toolbar button to show and hide the sidebar
  • Add keyboard shortcuts for Copy Article URL and Copy External URL menu items
  • Fix a few AppleScript support bugs

Note: this version requires macOS 13 and up.

Also note: the equivalent update for iOS is in testing — if you’d like to help, you can join the TestFlight program.

As if in response to Dom's idea, overnight, via email Leslie Joyce sends a link to a feed containing first episodes of new fiction podcasts. First comment, how useful! I love this idea as a user. And second, how innovative! I love this idea as a media hacker, what a clever use of RSS. I've added it to my blogroll and to my shared list of podcast feeds.
